She was the youngest of 3 daughters and the beloved baby sister to Venita Antonia Lue and Tonia Evonne Chapple.
Rosetta attended and graduated from George Washington High School in San Francisco. While living in San Francisco, she began working at Starbucks’ coffee shop because she was there so often. She loved her job and took pride in her work. However, after standing so long on her legs, she had to leave her favorite coffee shop. You see our Sister, Auntie, cousin and friend was born with cerebral palsy, a degenerative disease of the muscles. However, that did not stop her from wanting to go out or participate in family activities.
Rosetta had a dry and sarcastic sense of humor which those who knew her found her very hilarious. They could not believe she was so witty. She was also referred to as Taurus the bull because she could be so stubborn when she wanted to. Even from a young child she would never call our father, Dad or Daddy instead she called him "Bill". The family thought this was hilarious, because the more we corrected her, the more she continued to refer to our father as "Bill".
Rosetta loved traveling with her family to Portland, Oregon, Texas, Canada and Jamaica. She loved Portland, Oregon so much she eventually went and lived with our Aunt Loretta. She lived there for many years. While there, she met new friends including a boyfriend but was kept hush hush because she was also a private person. In Portland, Oregon, she enjoyed going to church with her friends, going shopping, going to the beach, and taking computer classes. Rosie returned to San Francisco when our Aunt Loretta passed away in 1998. She had established a full life while living there. When she returned to San Francisco, Rosie would say she was going to the library which she did, and she was an avid reader, but her sisters suspected she had a secret admirer.
As Rosetta grew older, her health began to deteriorate, which was very sad to witness. However, she would just shake her head and say "Oh brother, now what". Something she had heard from the elders in the family,
She struggled in her life and with each new ailment, the family watched Rosie's light
start to dim. She had to have several corrective surgeries however; Rosie was truly a warrior woman.
When our beloved mother passed away she wanted to live on her own and be in a place where there was an elevator. Her wish came true and her nephew, Jonathan was able to secure a newly renovated complex, called The Arc Mercy Housing for people with disabilities that are able to live independently. She relished her new independent environment and was honored to cut the red ribbon at the opening ceremony on October 25, 2017 with Mayor Ed Lee and London Breed at her side for the interview that was broadcasted on the news.
The family had many endearing names for her, like Rose Bud, Rosy Posy, Honey Bunny, Pooh and as her baby great-grand nephew would say, Auntie R0-SIE and she would stretch her arms out to hug him however during her illness she wanted all others to call her, Rosetta. After a long battle with her latest illness, on January 8, 2022, Rosetta quietly passed away. Her heart had stop beating and our sister Tonia, bless her heart, was by her side.
To Rosie our Sister, Auntie, cousin and friend, we love you and you will forever be in our hearts. So long our dear Rosie, may you have a smooth transition from this life into your next life. Goodbye Rosie.
Rosetta is survived by her sisters, and brothers: Venita and husband Paul Lue, Tonia Chapple, Tanja and husband Ronnie Pitman, Trina and her husband Melvin Jones, Tina and husband Brian Mann, Tamara Mayo and Antonio Mayo.
She will be greatly missed by her niece and nephew: Paul and Jacqueline Brewer, Myisha and Armon Moore, Jonathan Chapple and great nephews: Jonathan (Jon-Jon) Chapple, Astrick(Rocket) Moore, and Enzo(Jett) Moore along with a host of cousins and friends.
A special gratitude to her nephew Jonathan Chapple who unwaveringly made sure his Aunt Rosie had her needs and desires taken care of while living independently.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Faith Thomas, Bertha Green, Rod Jackson, Evelyn White, Sandra McGee & family and her best friend from childhood who was like a sister Elizabeth (Lizzie) Cain for your unwavering support and encouragement in caring for Rosie. Your compassion touched our hearts and we are forever grateful to you. We wish we could list all the relatives and friends who lit up her life but the list would be never ending because our family circle of relatives and friends were always there for her.
