Sharon was the daughter of Grace E. Gonder and John W. Crater.
She is survived by her stepmother, Sang Hi Crater, brother Jeffrey Crater (Joan), half sisters, Joann Crater Aurand (Martin) and Barbara McGrew. She had numerous nieces & nephews and great nieces & nephews.
Sharon grew up in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Pottsgrove High School in 1958. She was valedictorian of her class.
She graduated from Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) four years later, Phi Beta Kappa. Shortly after graduation Sharon traveled to California and San Francisco became home to her. Sharon taught literacy skills to non-English speakers at the City College of San Francisco.
Upon retiring, Sharon enjoyed traveling to other countries, spending time with friends and taking care of plants at her house and in a community garden.
