Steven Tonkovich was born on April 11, 1934. He was a proud San Franciscan with an enormous heart and wicked sense of humor. While we grieve his loss, we can still see the smile on his face and hear the roar of his infectious laugh. His biting sarcasm and humor filled our hearts and placed grins on our faces. Anyone who met him knew instantly that he was a special man. Steven was selfless and always cared for those around him. He was a "giver," even to those he barely knew. Whether it was the years he spent serving cocktails (and man, he made a mean Bloody Mary), or the 20 $ bill always stuck in an Easter card for the kids, or the newspaper article you got in the mail because he wanted you to read it, he was always thinking about his friends who considered him more like family. He was old school and classy. He reminded us that sometimes it's better to give a hand written note or call instead of a text. He was our brother, uncle, and grandparent. He was easy to know and easier to love because he loved so much. Those who knew him well knew he was a man of strong will. And on January 12th, 2017 he left this world on his own terms. He wanted to go before his health got "too bad" (or Trump was officially in office). Maybe he had his glass of Gin and settled into bed for a night of rest, but rather than waking up, he decided it was time to fly away. He leaves behind many loved ones but will remain in our hearts forever. He loved, and we loved him.
