William Frederick Schultheis (73) of San Francisco, California passed away on January 26, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.
William, known to most as Bill, was born in Pueblo, Colorado on October 20, 1950, to Elizabeth (Broderick) and Victor Schultheis. He lived in various places in the Western United States, having especially fond memories of childhood in San Diego, but returned to San Francisco for high school (Sacred Heart) and stayed. He was a true San Franciscan and an honorary native.
Bill married his high school sweetheart, Alana McDonald, in 1968 and they welcomed daughter Alexandra together. Although their marriage ended, Bill and Alana remained close friends and Alana served as a core caregiver after his recent cancer diagnosis. Bill got into IT in the “old days,” and had a long and happy career with Levi Strauss & Co. After an early retirement, Bill helped take care of his mother and doted on his grandchildren.
Among so many other things, Bill loved travel - domestic and international. His European adventure and many camping trips with brother Charles were legendary, and he enjoyed numerous explorations in Asia and Europe. He was a lover of food, wine, music (especially jazz), photography, and talking philosophy and spirituality. He was a fan of the Giants and 49ers. He was strong in his Catholic faith and unfailingly kind, polite and respectful. He was always quick with a smile, laugh, joke or fun fact. We loved him deeply and were honored to be able to travel this last Journey (as he called it) with him.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth and Victor. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Alexandra Schultheis and Sean McCarty, his granddaughters, Grace and Max McCarty, his brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Joann Schultheis, his sister and brother-in-law, Stephanie and Steve Goldner, his nieces and nephews, Elise, Daniel, Cassie and Bill, and his grand-nieces and nephews.
Thank you to the kind caregivers at Sutter Care at Home hospice for supporting Bill and his family. Services will be private.
