Our mom, Alice Pauline Swick, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2019 at Mountain Side Guest Home where she had resided for three months. Mom was a kind and loving wife and adoring mother who had a zest for life and cherished every day of it.
She was born on June 24, 1924 to Anthony and Frances Banaszak and lived with them and her brother Ed in Buffalo New York. Alice was an excellent student and graduated from high school at the age of 17. She met my father Casimir T. Swick “Casey”, at a girl friend’s house. He caught her eye, and at a touch football game she caught the winning touchdown pass from him. It was a match made in heaven.
On November 24, 1945 Alice and Casey were married. They were more than in love, they were soul mates. Always being kind to each other and putting the other one before their self. They shared 62 wonderful years together until our dad’s passing in 2007. After his death mom was still the same loving, kind and attentive person, but a little bit of the twinkle in her eye had faded.
They raised three boys in Buffalo, Lawrence, Guy and Ronald. Our mom was a wonderful home maker. Taking care of my father and three inquisitive rambunctious boys kept her more than busy throughout the day. In 1957 our father told us that we were going to move to California. We drove across country mom, dad and three little boys. Dad was the only driver. It was an interesting trip. We arrived in California, and eventually bought a house on Willmonte Ave. in Temple City. It was a good thing we moved to California, because that is where we found our new brother, John.
Mom was an exceptional homemaker. She was a good cook, but she was a great baker. Her cakes and pies were absolutely amazing. Every year at Christmas she made hundreds of cookies to pass out to neighbors, family and friends as gifts.
As the boys grew older and more involved with their own lives, mom became more involved with her church, St Luke’s. She also started a craft store. She spent many hours working with the ladies of the church and her friends creating crafts to please and entertain themselves and the people of the parish.
Alice is survived by her sons. She had three grandchildren Michael, Christopher and Sachi, and a great grandchild, Alice.
