Bertha Flores, also known as “Birdie,” lost her battle with cancer on January 4, 2019, at 7:25 am.

Born in Austin, Texas, Birdie moved to California in 1964 with her family. After finishing high school at Mark Keppel High School, she worked at Sears, Transamerica Insurance, and then worked as a Legal Secretary for many years in Los Angeles for Heller Ehrman LLP and Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton LLP.

Birdie was also very active for many years with the San Gabriel Valley Legal Secretaries Association holding many of the offices in the organization. Birdie’s passions were treasure hunting at estate sales, beautifying her yard and garden, and spending time with friends and family. Birdie also enjoyed traveling, hosting gatherings at her home, and she was constantly working on home improvement projects.

Birdie fought the battle for several years. When her daughter-in-law Celene became pregnant with twins, Birdie’s goal was to make it to the birth of her grand-babies. Then her goal was to make it to their first birthday party. She reached both goals with strength and determination.

On New Year's Eve 2018, two days after hosting her grand-babies first birthday party, Birdie was admitted into the hospital and quietly passed away with her family by her side on January 4, 2019 at 7:25 a.m. Birdie will be missed not only for her love of family and friends but for her boundless energy to help anyone in need. Birdie is now resting in peace.

Birdie will be joining her Mom, Dad, and little sister Mercy in heaven, but will be missed by her son, Michael, her daughter-in-law, Celene (nee Heman), her grandchildren, Miles and Naila, sisters and brothers, Alice M. Flores Latham, Yolanda Yellin-Flynt, Herlinda Salter, Patricia Flores Garcia, Rose Marie Luthi, Daniel Flores and six nieces and four nephews.

Rose Luthi

January 21, 2019

My sister was my best friend. She was my design on a dime decorator and would always come over before our parties and add her special touch to my house. She will always be with us and we will make sure that her grand-babies remember how much they were loved by her.

Biography

FILL NOT YOUR HEARTS WITH PAIN

Fill not your hearts with pain and
sorrow, but remember me in every
tomorrow. Remember the joy, the
laughter, the smiles. I’ve only gone
to rest for a while. Although my
leaving causes pain and grief,
my going has eased my hurt and
given me relief. So dry your eyes
and remember me, not as I am but
as I used to be. Because, I will
remember you all and look on
with a smile. Understand in your
hearts, I’ve only gone to rest a
while. As long as I have the love
of you, I can live my life in the
hearts of all of you.
