Carol was born on August 12,1942 in Alhambra, California. She was the daughter of Frances and Leonard Scurto. She grew up in Lincoln Heights with her parents and her nannu. Carol attended Sacred Heart where she made lifelong friends. In high school, Carol played volleyball and was a talented artist. After high school, Carol worked for the Pac Bell Company while attending junior college at night. Carol began her longstanding career with school districts as an Instructional Aide and eventually became a Reading Specialist. She was blessed with a special gift of helping others, especially children.
Carol married Ray in 1962 and enjoyed almost 60 years of marriage. They were blessed with two children, Tammy and Tommy, and raised their family in Temple City, where they have resided for 55 years. Carol was a stay-at-home mom for many years and was very involved in her children’s lives. The most important thing to Carol were her children, and there wasn’t anything she wouldn’t have done for them.
Carol loved being with her family and friends, especially on holidays. Holidays and birthdays were big at the Clementi house. Family traditions were very important to Carol, and every holiday had a special tradition to celebrate. Her most beloved tradition was her Easter bread, a recipe passed down from her mother. Year after year, Carol poured her love into the making of the bread, and it was always the highlight of each Easter celebration.
There was always an open-door policy at the Clementi’s. Sunday night pasta dinners were a favorite among Tommy and Tammy’s friends. No invitation-everybody welcomed! There were two things Carol never ran out of, food and love. She had an endless supply of love to give and was affectionately referred to as a “second mom” by many, and always had room for more.
Carol was a wife, mom, aunt, teacher, and loyal friend, but the role she cherished most of all was being a NANA. Carol became “Nana” in 1996, when her first grandson Thomas was born, followed by Michael, Taylor, and finally Tanner. Her grandchildren brought her newfound joy in life. Carol enjoyed every minute of her grandchildren and showered them with love. She loved watching her grandchildren participate in many activities and soon became nana to many of their friends. Nana was a big part of their lives and as they got older, Nana did her best to stay connected with each of them. Her grandchildren were her true pride and joy.
On August 5, 2022, one week before her 80th birthday, Carol was ushered into Heaven. Carol continued to trust in the Lord and looked forward to being with Him. She leaves behind her beloved husband Ray, her son Tommy, her daughter Tammy, and son-in-law Tim, and her four grandchildren: Thomas, Michael, Taylor, and Tanner. Carol touched many people with her compassion and willingness to help throughout her life in both work and her personal relationships. Carol was dearly loved by so many and will forever be in our hearts.
Carol’s family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for all the love and
support during this difficult time. Every thought, prayer and action has touched us
deeply.
