Esperanza Mendez

May 21, 1925 to August 27, 2013

Esperanza came to this world on May 21, 1925, and left to be at peace with God on August 27, 2013. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and (yes) great, great grandmother.

Esperanza was born in Los Angeles but raised in Mexicali. As a young adult, she returned to Los Angeles where she met Francisco, her husband of nearly 50 years. Esperanza was a selfless individual who dedicated her life to her family, immediate and extended, and to helping others. She always opened her heart and home to any family member in need or even to any stray cat or dog in need of some tender care. She always welcomed and enjoyed the company of others, never refusing an invitation to a wedding, quinceanera, first communion, baptism, birthday party, or a back yard barbeque. The company and laughter of others is what Esperanza enjoyed dearly.

Throughout her nearly nine decades of life, Esperanza touched the hearts and lives of countless individuals and will be missed by all. Esperanza died peacefully in the company of her husband and children. She is survived by her husband, Francisco, her daughters Rosa, Carmen, and Esther, her sons Rudy, Adolfo, Gilberto, Arturo, Ricardo, and countless extended family members and friends.

Esperanza’s viewing will take place on Monday, September 2, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Pierce Brothers Turner & Stevens located at 1136 East Las Tunas Drive, San Gabriel, California 91776. Esperanza’s funeral mass will take place on Tuesday, September 3, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at San Gabriel Mission located at 428 South Mission Drive, San Gabriel, California 91776.
