He leaves his wife of 75 years, Anita (Allegretti) Grand; his daughter, Gloria Grand; his son, Robert Grand and wife Dolores Grand; and his daughter, Teresa (Grand) Kelley and her husband, Kevin Kelley; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and many close friends.
Born and raised in Lodi, New Jersey, the son of Alfred and Clara (Velardo) Grand, Frank graduated from Lodi High School in 1939 and met his future wife, Anita that same year. He joined the U.S. Army in 1940 where he was a First Sergeant. Frank and Anita were married in 1942 in New Orleans where he was stationed.
In 1950, Frank and Anita moved to the San Gabriel Valley and were long-time residents of Alhambra and South Pasadena. Frank opened Grand Cleaners in Alhambra in 1951, a part of Alhambra’s business community for more than 60 years. His strong work ethic, sense of service and gigantic heart drew people to him and helped fuel his success.
He was a member of many church and service organizations, including Holy Family Parish/South Pasadena, All Souls Parish/Alhambra, United Commercial Travelers, Kiwanis and more. He had a passion for woodworking and building furniture. He also loved RVing and golf.
Family was extremely important to Frank. Working hard together, as well as spending quality time together, were top priorities. He spent countless hours with his children and grandchildren - building, playing and laughing -TOGETHER. Frank’s outstretched hand was always there when needed. His loving, confident guidance will continue to enrich family members for generations.
And finally, Frank married the love of his life, Anita, in 1942 when they were both just 21 years old. They were married for 75 years and were almost never apart. They were still living together in a small, assisted-living apartment when he passed away. The love they shared, and the family they built together, stand as testament to a strong, loving, wise man – and a life well lived.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church, South Pasadena with interment at Resurrection Cemetery, Monterey Park immediately following. A Rosary will be held on Monday, Dec. 18 at 7 p.m.at Pierce Bros. Mortuary, San Gabriel.
