

Gene Anthony McKay, 54, was a loving father, devoted friend, and skilled project manager. He was taken from us too soon and passed away on July 5th, 2023, in Sierra Madre, California, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and lasting memories. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Gene is survived by his beloved son, Christopher McKay, and his cherished daughter, Stephanie McKay. He is also survived by his sister, Raylene Filey, his brother, Ted Abahazi, his aunt, Ida Sofra, and his girlfriend, Andrea Hill.
Gene's love and presence will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends. Gene was known for his unwavering loyalty, dedication, and strong work ethic. As a skilled project manager in the construction industry, his knowledge and expertise exceeded expectations. He was highly respected by his colleagues and always went above and beyond to deliver exceptional results. Beyond his professional achievements, Gene had a warrior spirit that inspired those around him. He faced life's challenges head-on and was relentless in his will to fight. No obstacle was too great for him, and his determination served as a guiding light for others.
Gene's sense of humor was contagious, and his sarcasm and quick wit brought laughter to the lives of those around him. He had a natural ability to make anyone laugh and uplift their spirits. Gene was a natural leader, always truthful and faithful, never hesitating to give honest advice or speak his mind.
Gene had an enthusiasm for life and adventure. In his leisure time, he had a passion for riding dirt bikes, finding joy in the freedom of the open dirt road and sand dunes. He loved traveling in his camper and exploring the beauty of national forests and beaches, finding solace in nature's embrace. He also enjoyed home. Gene also found peace and fulfillment in boating and fishing, where he could connect with the tranquility of the water.
In addition to his many passions, Gene had culinary prowess and an appreciation for good food. He loved to cook and delighted in preparing delicious meals for his family and friends. He brought people together, creating lasting memories around the dinner table. Gene also had an innate ability to find the best places to eat wherever he went. Whether it was a hole-in-the-wall diner or a renowned restaurant, he knew the hidden gems and culinary delights that would leave lasting memories on the taste buds of his companions.
Above all, Gene's greatest joy in life came from being a dedicated father. He raised his two children, Christopher, and Stephanie, with love, guidance, and unwavering support. Their bond was unbreakable, and his influence in their lives will continue to shape them for years to come. Gene Anthony McKay will be truly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on through the laughter he shared, the wisdom he imparted, and the love he gave so freely. As we bid farewell to a remarkable individual, let us remember and celebrate the remarkable life he led.
The funeral service to honor and remember Gene will be held on July 29th, 2023, at 12 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the National Park Foundation, as this was a cause close to Gene's heart. Following the service, a reception will be held to celebrate Gene's life and share cherished memories. May Gene Anthony McKay rest in eternal peace, knowing that his spirit and legacy will forever be remembered and treasured in our hearts.
