Ida Grace Sofra (nee Abahazi), 92, of Temple City, California, left us peacefully on December 2, 2024, when she passed away at her home surrounded by family. She was born February 22, 1932, in Elyria, Ohio.
Ida was a graduate of Clearview High School.
Ida was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Frank Sofra in 2023 and her parents Andrew and Elizabeth Abahazi, brothers Andrew “Andy”, Eugene “Euge” and Oscar and sisters Elvira "Vera", Eleanor, Elizabeth “Betty”, Julie, Marge, and Eugene McKay (nee Abahazi) her nephew.
Ida is survived by her sister Carol Kopp (nee Abahazi), her nephew Theodore Abahazi and wife Sonia Abahazi, her grand niece and nephew Stephanie and Christopher McKay (nee Abahazi) as well as many other loving nieces, nephews, and family members.
Ida will be dearly missed as she has been an integral part of so many lives by always contributing when she could and being of service, offering a kind word in times of struggle and suggesting the right course of action during life’s challenging times. She will be forever remembered for her wonderful cooking and specialties like cabbage rolls, olive salad, chicken soup, persimmon cookies, pizzelles and a host of other dishes and treats she so generously provided over the years.
As a spouse, Ida will be remembered as a committed, faithful, ever-loving wife and partner to her husband Frank. Her dedication to Frank was extraordinary, spanning the course of 67 years of marriage. From their early beginnings in Ohio to their lifetime together in Southern California Ida was an ever mindful, patient, persevering and unstoppable when it came to their relationship and the home they built together. While Ida tended to the home and Frank ran his company, their partnership was evident in the full life they lived together in support of each other. Ida’s love and commitment to Frank was further demonstrated by her ability to allow Frank time “with his cars” that he collected, repaired and enjoyed over their many years together.
Ida also enjoyed time in the garden where she would raise all types of flowers to include birds of paradise, roses, the walnut and fig trees, camellia bushes, various potted plants and even a “Black Lilly” that would occasionally spring to life in any given year when the conditions where right.
Ida will be remembered as a kind, generous and caring soul who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A service to celebrate Ida’s life is to be held on January 11th, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Pierce Brothers Mortuary in San Gabriel, CA. All are welcome to attend.
