Mark William Gabelman

Mark came into this world on a beautiful sunny day on July 12, 1960 at 8:02 PM at Glendale Adventist hospital. The son of Dale F. and Carole M. Gabelman of Palos Verdes, CA. He was the oldest of four siblings.

He leaves behind a Daughter, Kate L. Gabelman, Atlanta, GA. Brother, Scott E. Gabelman, Boise, ID. Brother, Dan B. Gabelman Redondo Beach, CA, Sister, Jan F. Gabelman, Boise, ID. Niece, Madeline F Gabelman, Arcadia, CA, Nephew, Nick Gabelman, niece, Allison Gabelman and Father, Dale F. Gabelman, Step mother, VJ Gabelman Huntington Beach, CA. Mark is Preceded in death by our mother, Carole Madeline Gabelman.

The family moved from Palos Verdes to Boise, ID around 1973. Mark was a 1978 graduate of Meridian, ID High School. In Idaho, Mark worked for various landscaping and pool service companies before he made the move back to his southern California roots around 1982 and went to work for the family owned business at El Rancho Meats. Around 1992, Mark followed in his fathers footsteps, and worked day and night to build his own pool maintenance business, which in turn became his full time profession. My brother was one of the hardest working people I know, he worked from sun-up to well past dark, he was a man of extraordinary energy.

The family received the prognosis of Mark on January 19, 2018, the doctors gave Mark maybe a year, Mark fought hard for 5 years, I think that shows his strength and determination.

Mark married Karen L. Lewis on July 1, 1989 in Arcadia, CA. Mark and Karen welcomed their first and only child on April 10, 1991, Kate Lynn Gabelman. Mark was so excited and proud to become a father, his daughter was his life and he loved her with all his heart.

Mark was an avid outdoorsman at heart, he and his brothers would plan yearly backpacking trips to hike the high country in the Sawtooth Mountain Range in Idaho. In addition to hiking, Mark loved playing golf. It was a rare weekend if you didn’t see Mark at Eaton Canyon Golf Course for his normal tee time on Sundays. When Mark wasn’t on the golf course he would be fishing back in The Reeds on Gull Lake, Crowley lake, Alligator Point and Sandy Point with his buddies; Frank, Craig and Earl.

I think we can all agree, above everything else Mark was a sports fanatic and could rattle off the stats of any team or player. I always thought Mark would have made a great sports commentator.

As I was writing this, I was curious as to the winning teams of the year Mark was born. So for all you sports fans here are the stats.

In the world of Sports in 1960

• The Boston Celtics beat the St. Louis Hawks (4 - 3) to win the NBA Finals.

• Montreal Canadiens defeated Toronto Maple Leafs (4 - 3) to win the Stanley Cup.

• Pittsburgh Pirates beat the New York Yankees (4 - 3) to win the World Series.

• Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Green Bay Packers, 17-13.

• Perhaps we may want to keep our eye on the Eagles to Win the Superbowl?

As you know, Mark was a loyal fan of: The Rams, Trojans, Lakers and The Dodgers

Mark’s pleasant personality and smile was contagious to everyone he crossed paths with, His friends nicknamed him “Smiling Mark” or “Happy Mark.” He could bring a smile to your face and laugh along at you or with you. He had a great sense of humor and he had many stories to share of his adventurous life which we will cherish forever.

The Gabelman Family is grateful and thankful for each and everyone of you for the love and support you’ve given Mark not only through his fight against his disease but throughout his life. I know he felt he was truly blessed for friends like you.
