I'm So sorry for your loss of your mother.  I know she meant so much to you.  She lived a full life. You have a great heritage to reflect on.  May God be with you during these days of mourning her loss.

Your parents were great people and the memories I have of them will last forever.  I will especially remember all the St Peter's events and all the time we all shared there. We'll miss her.

Chris and Joe I cannot put into words the loss that I feel for both of you. I always think of her at Thanksgiving and the great meals she had prepared. To expand on what Austin said about the years our Dads were overseas. My Mom and I moved into Grandma's house on Solano Ave with Aunt Pauline and Michael. Aunt Pauline was like my second Mom and When Uncle Joe came home from the war my Mom said I thought he was my Father, and cried when my Dad came home and held me for the first time. I think since I spent the first several months of my life living with Uncle Joe, Aunt Pauline and Michael there has always been a special connection deep inside of me with them. Aunt Pauline was a sweetheart of a lady and will be dearly missed.

As a young child, I lived with my mother and was only able to see my father once a month. He would pick me up and the first thing I would ask him was â€œAre we going to see Grandma and Grandpa today?â€ I would be waiting for only a second, which felt like a whole minute. When he would say yes, I felt so much excitement knowing I would be able to go there and play at their home. As we pulled up, Grandma would open up the screen door off the back porch and wait for me. With open arms she would give me the biggest hug and kiss then ask me if I would like a soda. Of course as a child, this is always the best invitation even. Sometimes it's the little things that mean so much, and she knew it.
As I grew older into my teens, going to Grandma's house became more about the family and the excitement of who was going to be there. Was Nick going to be there to play catch in the yard, were Grandpa and my uncles in the living room watching golf, the Lakers or the Dodgers? Sometimes it was all three. As a young man, I would see how our family loved and cared for one another and decided that's how I want to raise my family. From Grandpa playing his accordion outside at Uncle Larry's 40th birthday party, Thanksgivings' with eggplant parmesan instead of turkey to sneaking candy from the little bowl in the living room my memories of those wonderful times will always be a part of me and who I am today.

ON THE PHONE .SHE CALLED ME HER LITTLE FLOWER GIRL.IT WAS A HONOR KNOWING HER, ALL MY LIFE AND SPENDING ENDLESS HRS TALKING TO HER AT TIMES, AND THE NICE THINGS SHE HAD SHARED WITH ME ,TELLING ME HOW BLESSED SHE WAS TO HAVE TWO SONS, LIKE CHRIS AND JOE, AND HOW GREAFUL SHE WAS TO CHRIS SPENDING EVERYDAY WITH HER AND WATCHING OVER HER ,LIKE HE DID MAKING SURE SHE WAS CARED. Chris, our heartfelt condolences on this very sad news about your mom! She was and always will be a beautiful spirit. So full of love and kindness towards everyone that was blessed to know her. You Chris share that very same spirit as did she! You are a good son second to none in this world! She was blessed as well to have you and Joe in her life when she truly needed you both. A few years ago, my father and grandma were reminiscing on her childhood and they both decided that they should document it. The following is the information as my grandma remembered it.

Grandma was born in Eaglerock California living with her mother and father. They moved to Chino California. This home was a farm with farm animals. Great Grandpa Falabrino had a stroke while living there at age 43 while working in the vineyard. It was a very hot day and some think it could have been a heat stroke. He passed away in a Norwalk hospital.
 Great Grandma Falabrino, Florence, and Grandma moved to a home in San Gabriel near where Florence currently lives. Great Grandma had to work cleaning homes to support the family. Florence got polio around age 4 while living in the house. She was put in the hospital on Christmas Eve and had to stay there for approximately 6 months. Great Grandma visited Florence everyday. She would carry Florence in her arms to the bus stop if they had to go somewhere. Florence was told she probably would not be able to walk without crutches and leg braces for the rest of her life, but with strong determination she overcame and surprised everyone. Grandma and Florence attended Mission Grammar School and Alhambra High School. There were no Catholic High School at this time. 
 Grandma met Grandpa in 1937 at Crawford's Corner while he was playing in the country western band there. Grandpa saw her in the audience. He would ride up and down Grandma's street on his bicycle in an attempt to run into her. A friend of Grandpa's, Mary Catone, introduced Grandpa to Grandma at Grandpa's request, but Grandma did not seem as if she was too interested. Grandpa was playing with the country western band again and noticed Grandma in the audience holding hands with another man. The hand of the boy Grandma was holding was just a friend, but this was all it took for Grandpa to ask Grandma out on a date. Grandpa started working at age 15 to support the family and at age 17 drove a new Chevy. Grandma was proud to drive with Grandpa in this car. Grandpa didn't waste time as he tried to give Grandma an engagement ring 2 weeks later. A lot of women were interested in Grandpa at this time, but Grandma needed to give the relationship more time. Later she accepted the engagement ring. Great Grandma Nicassio didn't care for Grandma at first and had other women in mind for Grandpa, but she soon learned to absolutely love her. Great Grandpa Nicassio liked her from the beginning. Grandpa continued to visit Grandma every night until they married in 1939.
 After they were married they moved into a house in Los Angeles on Casanova Street. Uncle Michael was born in 1941 in this house. In 1943 Grandpa was drafted into the army.
 While Grandpa was in the army, Grandma took Michael and moved in with Great Grandma Nicassio on Solano Street in Los Angeles. Gabe Domenici Sr.was drafted at this time and Cathy moved in with her mom also on Solano Street. Charlie Pglia Sr. was drafted at this time also. Shortly after, great Grandma Nicassio remarried to Degillio. This marriage didn't last long and Great Grandma ended up moving back into her home on Solano. Grandma wrote letters to Grandpa every day and sometimes wrote two a day until he came home. It was difficult to get all the letters to him as he continued to move on the front line. The letters would be returned unopened and to this day Grandma has a box of unopened letters that were never read.
 Grandpa had his army training in Texas and came home for a short visit before being shipped off to Germany. Grandpa was injured during the Battle of the Bulge and ended up in a hospital in France. Grandma received a Western Union telegram explaining that Grandpa was injured, but the injury was not too bad. Actually Grandpa requested that the telegram be sent that way. Grandpa was hurt pretty bad being blown out of a tree from mortar fire. While his wounds were healing, the doctors found out he could play the accordion. He was asked to play for the injured soldiers in the hospital. He played so well that he was asked to join the Air Force Band where he continued to play for the soldiers. Not long after, Grandpa was sent home for good. Grandpa surprised Grandma and came home without telling her, but not without playing for the soldiers one more time. He came home on the Queen Mary ship playing for the soldiers the entire time. For this he received a letter of accommodation. Among the metals Grandpa received, he received a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and many others.
 Grandma, back at the home in Solano had a strange feeling while sitting on the porch with Michael in her arms. She looked up and saw a man walking down the street. It was Grandpa. Grandma, Grandpa and Michael lived in this house for awhile and later had their second child Larry. Friends Frank Bolino and Josi Moisio lived on the same street. 
 They moved together to Monterey Park to live in their first purchased home at 402 N Nicholson Ave. Uncle Chris and my father Joe were born there and shortly after they all moved to the home at 400 N Nicholson Ave where they grew up and lived for the rest of their lives.

Thoughts and prayers for Joe and all the Nicassio's.  We never met her, but heard great things about her.  May she rest in peace.

It's hard to find words to express my gratitude and respect for my Uncles, Joe and Chris.  They are truly my Grandmother's boys. The dedication, strength, and caring they showed over the past several years in caring for our Grandma Pauline should be an inspiration to us all. They embody everything Grandma was... Unselfish,  loving, dedicated, unwavering.   

Each of my grandparents played an integral role in my life.  I owe much of who I am to them.  From my Grandfathers came a strong work ethic and drive to do things myself, rather than pay someone to do it for me.  From my Grandmothers a love of family and of course, food... And from all of them I learned how important it was to make sacrifices for the good of your family. 

Grandma Pauline may have been a lady small in stature, but among giants in heart and spirit.  We love you, Grandma.  Until we see eachother again, you'll always be in our hearts.

Sorry about the loss of your Mother Joe and family. May she rest in peace.

Auntie Pauline was always such an inspiration.   Ive never seen a better looking woman at her age, always had her hair done, lipstick on and dressed nicely.  And most importantly, always as sweet as could be.

Chris and I have had a lot of time to talk about how thankful we are to have had such loving parents in our lives.  Even though we were blessed to have her for a beautiful 94 years, it never seems like it is enough.  She loved her children unconditionally and shared love with my father that gave me a lasting image of what it is to love someone close to you.  Let me share with you the most recent experience that demonstrated this: 

As most of you know about seven years ago my mother and father were diagnosed with cancer.   My mother received her diagnosis before my father and with the careful guidance and research of my brother Chris she ended up at City of Hope.  The doctors laid out her options, but they all included a lot of time in treatment and recovery.  Of course the other option was to do nothing and she would be expected to live 6 to 9 months.  The best option was robotic surgery performed by a renown City of Hope surgeon and that option included a lot of preparation and recovery.  We chose the option that included the highest success rate, surgery, and because of the aggressive nature of the cancer she needed to start right away.  

Love for My Father:  3 weeks later my father was diagnosed with cancer and unfortunately given 3 to 6 months to live.  Well, this made it easy for my mom as she put it, â€œI don't want to go through treatments if it takes me away from time with my Joe.   I will start my treatments after my Joe passes and if it's too late, then it's ok because I spent my time with my husband.  He passed in 3 months.
Love for Her Children:  When my dad passed away, my mother went for treatments and at that point the surgery was out of the question.  The only option was chemo and radiation and the odds were a few years to live if all went well and she tolerated it.  Her fight at this point was for her children and she made it through.  With the blessing of dear God, the guided hands of the doctors at City of Hope, she gave us 7 more years of extended love.  She missed my father dearly and my father waited so patiently inside â€œThe Gates of Heavenâ€ for her.   Bottom line, she wanted more time with her boys.

Saying Goodbye: On the final day as my mother was being prepped for a procedure, she look up and Chris and I and said, â€œYou know I'm a fighter, I have nothing to worry about because Jesus is by my side.  As a matter of fact, He's holding my hand right now.â€  She looked up at Chris and I and said, â€œyou two take care of yourselves and tell all The Team that I love them.â€  We couldn't have asked for better closing words.

I was blessed to have my prayers answered with the guidance of God through these times.  Thank You to my dear wife Cheryl for all your support and the time you gave me to spend with my mother.  I have no regrets because of you.  Thank You to my brother Chris who spent every day with my mom in the nursing home.  We were a team and without you, I couldn't have done it.  

My vision is Jesus bringing my mother to the bench in front of a beautiful ocean view where my father so patiently waited as she gave her family a few more years of her time.  They walked off to where Larry, Mike and the rest of our beautiful family members wait.
