In 1996 Larry Minor joined the Valley-Wide Recreation and Park District Board of Directors, but he wasn’t new to Valley-Wide, he’d been involved years before; and, he'd been a part of Valley-Wide in a big way.  The year was 1989, and the District was building a gymnasium which was an expensive undertaking, but it was a need for the community.  Larry, the Minor family, donated the gym floor.  That was just one of the many ways he supported.  From sponsorships, turf grass for sports fields, fundraisers, to providing bicycles for kids at Christmas time, Larry and the Minor family have always been cheerleaders and leaders for our District and community.

Although it is impossible to summarize on a page, the life of a man who gave so much to our community, it is possible to measure the impact his vision and contributions will continue to make in the history of our District.  Thousands of kids have benefited from playing basketball in the gym since 1989 and thousands more will continue to play on it; and, the same is true for the ballfields he and fellow Board members worked so hard to create.  Our community is truly better because Larry cared so much.

My deepest condolences to the family. I worked for Larry and Wayne for quite some time. They gave me a chance to learn a new career in accounting which allowed me to grow. I will always be grateful to them.
