Born December 24, 1918, passed away May 25, 2018.
Alex was born in Hilo, Hawaii but spent most of his youth in the
island of Oahu, Hawaii where he met his bride-to-be, Alice De Silva. They
married in June 1940. They (Alice) gave birth to twin boys, James & Paul in
July of 1941 and a son Howard in march of 1945. They lost their newborn
daughter, Marcia, in 1947.
In 1948, they bravely left their lives in Hawaii for a new life and
adventure in California (the mainland). They bought a chicken ranch in
Campbell, Ca. and began the first chapter of their new life.
Dad (Alex) was always a talented and savvy guy where it came to
building and construction. While still a young married couple in Hawaii, he
was working for Honolulu gas Company. On December 7, 1941 he was at
work at the pearl harbor gas company installation when the Japanese
invaded. He was considered too indispensable to be drafted into the
military service and completed the war effort at “the gas company”.
Soon after the move to the mainland, Alex went to work for a local
San Jose builder, W.C. Garcia & Associates where he worked as
superintendent until his retirement. He built subdivisions throughout Santa
Clara County - King’s Acres, Koch Lane Homes, Blossom Hill Terrace,
Dentwood Homes, Willowmont and Hillcrest Homes to name a few.
Alex & Alice set the bar very high when it came to marital excellence.
They were the guiding light of our immediate and extended family, a
marriage all would admire, envy and aspire to.
Alice died in 2007. Alex missed her immensely until his death. They
are one once again, holding hands and dancing in the streets of heaven.
Well... holding hands, as dad did not dance.
Alex is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Alice, his daughter
Marsha Lynne, son James and his grandson Jeffrey. He is survived by his
sons Paul and Howard, his grandchildren Michael, Jeanette, Shawn, Frank,
Dawn, Tammara, Troy, Kimberly, Alexander & Caroline together with 15
great-grandchildren and 1 great-great- grandson.
