Alma Nadine Bird, age 92, passed away at home surrounded by family on February 19, 2019. Alma (most knew her by Nadine) was born on September 5, 1926 in Bellview, New Mexico to Dewey Edgar Allen and Mary Agnes Allen (Osborne). Her family moved to Amarillo, Texas when she was five years old. She resided in Amarillo, Texas until moving to California in 1954.
She married the love of her life, Clarence “Les” Bird, on July 2, 1942. Clarence passed away in November 1988. Together they shared seven children (Debbie, Cheryl, Clarence Jr., Lynn, Julie, Pete, and Kevin). She left behind 11 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great grandchildren.
Alma’s family always came first and foremost. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. However, her generosity wasn’t just limited to her family. She was dedicated to helping others in any way she could. She loved listening to music; a few of her favorite artists were The Highwaymen, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and Fats Domino. Alma also loved collecting Betty Boop, and Route 66 memorabilia, along with anything red, as that was her favorite color. She was a wonderful cook who never followed a recipe. When asking Alma for a specific recipe her response would always be “just add a little of this, and a little of that”. Alma always made sure that anyone who came to visit her had something to eat, and no one left hungry.
She made a lasting impression on all of us who were blessed enough to be a part of her life. Alma touched many hearts throughout her 92 years of life, and she will be dearly missed by all.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday March 5, 2019 from 5pm to 9pm at Lima Family Erickson Memorial Chapel located at 710 Willow Street San Jose, CA 95125. Funeral services will follow Wednesday March 6, 2019 at 12pm. Alma will go to her final resting place immediately following the funeral services: Los Gatos Memorial Park, 2255 Los Gatos-Almaden Road, San Jose, CA 95124, where she will be laid to rest next to the love of her life.
