Anthony John Babb (known fondly as Tony by family and friends), age 71 of San Jose, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 3rd, 2021. Born in Stone, England to Barbara Babb and Ernest Blakeman on July 27th, 1949, Tony graduated from Edinburgh University in Scotland with a degree in Physics in 1971. He was the first in his family to attend and graduate from a university. Tony moved to the U.S. in the 1980’s where he began his career with Nixdorf Computer as a Software Manager in the New York office. He later joined Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC) where he spent the majority of his career (17 years) as a Product Manager and later a Risk Manager. While at PWC, he made many friends and for several years afterwards, always kept in touch sharing funny emails, articles, news stories, etc to his friends around the world. In 1989, he was transferred to the Menlo Park office where soon his life would change.
Knowing he was going to travel extensively to Latin America for business, he decided to enroll in Spanish classes at the local Berlitz Language School so that he could better connect with colleagues abroad. While taking classes at Berlitz, he met Alejandra Gomez who was one of his Spanish teachers. Although he wasn’t a very good student according to Alejandra (i.e. checked voicemails during the break and didn’t complete his homework, resulting in many staff meetings to discuss his progression), his British sense of humor and charm soon won her over and they fell in love over many restaurant dates together (“she talked, I listened” he would say). Alejandra and Tony welcomed their daughter Alexis in 1991 and later moved to Morgan Hill where they lived for over 20 years. After retiring in 2005, Tony pursued his love of aviation and recreational flying by joining and volunteering with the local EAA Hollister Chapter and San Martin Wings of History Museum.
With a cup of coffee and donut in hand as he read the local paper or did a crossword/sudoku puzzle, Tony took pleasure in life’s simplest moments but most of all, took great pride in caring and providing for his family. His sense of humor, easy going attitude, kindness and innate sense to always do the right thing will live on as part of his legacy. He is survived by his wife, Alejandra, daughter, Alexis, son-in-law, Nicholas, step-daughter Isis and her four children, Arianna, Devon, Serenity and Olivia.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Wings of History Museum in San Martin, CA as he was an avid volunteer in recent years.
