Armando Lomas – The Man. The Myth. The Legend. Mondo left us too soon, passing on August 15, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. He was born and raised in San Jose, California, and called the East Side and North Side home. He was a graduate of San Jose High School and was retired. Mondo loved to gamble, whether at the casino, the horse races, or underground online gambling. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing poker, dice, and dominoes. He always sought good laughs and good times, and he loved telling his wild stories and jokes. We will miss his quick-witted humor and clever comebacks. Our dad was a jokester, always talking mess. He was incredibly smart and a very sharp dresser; we will remember him wearing a polo or a sweater vest and always a cool hat. He loved his Budweiser, whiskey sours, and margaritas.
Mondo was born into a large, beautiful family. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Gilberto and Josephina Lomas, and his brothers, Joe, Israel “Lolly,” Gilbert, Arnold, and David, as well as his sisters, Gloria and Cindy. He is survived by his siblings Maria, Bobby, and Pearl. He was a loving and caring dad to Angelena “Angie,” Connie (David), and his only son, Vince, who tragically passed away on May 14, 2000—father and son together again. He is also survived by his former wife and mother of his children, Ofelia Lomas Rider. He was a cherished grandpa to Cassandra “Brenda,” Daniel (Briana) Nicolas, Gabriella “Gabbi,” and Max, and a great-grandpa to five handsome grandsons: Benjamin, Nicholas, Romeo, Atticus, and Valentino. He is survived by his longtime partner, Helen, and her sons Lupe, Peter, Isaac, and Stephen Torres, as well as her six granddaughters: Malia, Elicia, Janessa, Elena, Ava (BFF), and Athena.
He left behind many that he loved and adored, far too many to name, and many who have passed, such as his godson Phillip, great-nephew Gilbert, and niece Michelle. He is survived by all of his cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, in-laws, and those who will remember him as their favorite. Though we like to think his life was too short and we weren’t ready for him to leave us, he lived his life doing things his way and doing what he loved. Before he passed, our dad said he’d like to be celebrated by having loved ones share stories about his life and the good times they had. Please join us at noon on September 21, 2024, to share your memories and celebrate his life with us.
