Art was born October 29, 1933 in San Jose, California, where he lived his entire life. He attended elementary and middle schools in San Jose as well as San Jose Tech School.
Art is survived by his loving and caring wife of 35 years, Lupe (Minor) Gutierrez, his son Arthur Gutierrez and daughters Belinda Gutierrez and Tricia Behrman (Joel). He is also survived by his 3 sisters, a brother and numerous nieces and nephews who he loved very much.
He was preceded in death by his beautiful daughter Gloria, as well as by his parents Fortunato and Jennie Gutierrez and Mary B. Gomez.
Art started out as a residential and commercial painter working for various local contractors in the San Jose area. In 1960, he went to work for the San Jose United School District in the Maintenance Department/Paint Shop as a Journeyman painter. Within his trade he was very well known for his special gift of color matching and his attention to detail. He was considered by many as an expert in his field. In December 1995, he retired after 35 with SJUSD as a dedicated, loyal and much respected painter.
Art enjoyed spending his leisure time with his wife and family, especially his siblings and their spouses on their fun trips to Reno. He also enjoyed his wife's family gatherings and vacation trips. His happiest times were spending time with his family and his youngest godson Gideon, who was like a grandson to him.
