December 18, 1929 – January 29, 2021
Resident of San Jose
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving Mother, Aucencia (Chencha) Garza on the morning of January 29, 2021 surrounded by her family. She now joins husband, Higinio (Gene) and daughter, Esperanza in eternal Heaven. Her viewing and rosary will be held on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, 10:30 – 11:30am at Oak Hill Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 200 Curtner Avenue, San Jose. The Mass will be held 12 pm at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2040 Nassau Drive, San Jose. A private burial will follow the Mass.
Chencha was preceded in death by her parents Felipe Sr. & Antonia Flores and her nephew, Armando Flores. She is survived by children Gene Garza Jr (Martha), Jesusita Alcorcha, Toni (Frank) Chaparro, Angie (Mark) Eakin, Linda (Herminio) Rodriguez, Anna (Adam) Sanchez, Margarita (Carl) Wergin, Joe (Pam) Garza, Arturo Garza, and Rene (Tina) Garza; brother, Felipe Jr. (Maria Luisa) Flores and many nieces & nephews.
She also leaves behind grandchildren: Ruben Castillo (Francine), Juan Reyes (Tonia), Yvonne Esquibel (Steven), Yolanda Inda (Lou), Estella Inda (Robert), Christina Caton (Paul), Robert Minjares (Jessica), Cynthia Nelson (John), Alaina Guevara (Raul), Adam Sanchez Jr. (Alejandra), Cathy Schweikert (Karl), Charles Pritt (Jack), Carl Wergin (Charlotte), Matthew Kian (Tegan), Christopher Kian (Emily), David Garza, Sammy Garza, Jessica Garza (Daniel), Rene Garza Jr. (Dejanira) and Jeannette Garcia; great-grandchildren: Jared, Joseph, Adriana, Daniel, Ruben, Adrian, Antonia, Anastasia, Araceli, Olivia, Alanna, Celina, Angelina, Anthony, Alexander, Elijah, Mickey, George, Killian, Lila, Daniel, Catalina, Alyssa and Jacob and great-great grandchildren: Davina and Audrina.
Chencha retired from Stanford University Resident Dining as a Cook after 16 years. She and Gene spent their time traveling to visit family in Ohio, Florida, Texas and Mexico. They also enjoyed babysitting for their grandchildren and great-grandchildren nurturing them with a stable and loving home while their parents were at work. She had a special bond with each and every one of them.
Chencha had a great sense of humor and was up to the task of keeping up with Gene’s everlasting jokes. They were a great pair celebrating 68 years of marriage. She was a wonderful cook, seamstress, and gardener. Her greatest joys in life were her family and dear friends.
In addition to raising a large family, she served as PTA Secretary for Lincoln School in Lorain, Ohio, former Eucharistic Minister for Most Holy Trinity Church in San Jose and a former member of women’s auxiliary for the Santa Clara & North Valley G.I. Forum. She was a member of a bible study group who called themselves “Las Comadritas” who met at each other’s home weekly to say the rosary and study the bible. These women became a support group for each other with love and compassion. They remain close to her children to make sure everyone is all right during this difficult time.
She will be sorely missed but we are comforted in the fact that Chencha and Gene are together again, and no longer suffering. Due to Covid restrictions space will be limited for her services. A celebration of life will be held in the Fall of 2021. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer donations be made in Aucencia’s name to Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund.
