

Blanche de Puy O'Brien, 93, passed away on January 18, 2017 at her home in San Jose, CA. She was born in Merchantsville, New Jersey on September 3, 1923 to Blanche and William de Puy. Blanche graduated from Montclair State Teachers College in 1944 and began her teaching career in New Jersey as a high school Latin teacher. In San Jose, she continued teaching as an elementary substitute for many years. She was a longtime community volunteer and active member of numerous organizations including the San Jose Retired Teachers’ Association, the AAUW, and the American Field Service.
Before his passing in 1990, she and her late husband of 44 years, John J. O’Brien Jr., enjoyed traveling the world together. During her travels, Blanche visited more than 65 countries outside the US and often painted the landscapes upon her return. Blanche loved playing cards and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John J., her only sister, Frances Druce, and her loving son, Jay. She is survived by her daughter, Karen (Jay Eversole); daughter-in-law Ellen Gruenbaum; grandchildren, Jesse, Zach (Michelle), Tristan Eversole, and Slaine Eversole (Ben Miller); and two great-grandchildren, Evan and Violet. She will be missed dearly by all.
