Brian Thomas Roos passed away on the morning of July 25, 2018 in Palo Alto, California. He is survived by his father, Thomas, and younger brother, Brandon. Brian will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park, where he will rest comfortably alongside his late mother, Hazel Christine Roos.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 8, 2018 starting at 6pm inside the Chapel of Roses at Oak Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 300 Curtner Avenue, San Jose, CA 95125. This service will be followed by a tribute evening held in Brian’s honor at Cafe Stritch (374 S. 1st St, San Jose, CA 95113) as part of their Wax Wednesdays weekly. The tribute event will begin at 8pm.
Brian was born on May 27, 1972. He was a native of the Berryessa neighborhood of San Jose and a longtime regular within the downtown San Jose arts scene. Brian was a graduate of Piedmont Hills High School, where he was ASB President during his senior year.
From 1991-1995, he served in the US Navy. He finished his service back in the Bay Area on Alameda, where he was part of the HM-19 squadron. Upon being honorably discharged from the military, he began a career in tech that included time with Lockheed Martin, Silicon Graphics, Applied Materials, and Onizuka Air Force Station.
Brian was an avid record collector celebrated for his deep knowledge of funk and soul music and his well-curated collection of 45s. Performing throughout the Bay Area under the moniker Strictly 7, an homage to his affinity for 7-inch records, Brian’s appearances included both one-off events and regular engagements at places like Jack’s, SoFA Lounge, Cafe Stritch, Kleidons, the Ritz, and Hotel De Anza.
A fervent soccer supporter, he was a fan of Glasgow Rangers FC and a former member of the San Jose Oaks Soccer Club. He was a lifelong fan of skateboarding and had a soft spot in his heart for the film Grease. In recent years, Brian was a regular attendee at Lewis Memorial CME Church in San Jose.
