

suddenly on January 28,2021. The oldest of 7 children, she was the last surviving sibling. Carol was born in Elwood, Utah to Namiko & Ichiji Sakata in 1929. She left Utah in 1949, moving to Soquel, California to help her folks with their strawberry farm.
Carol met George Sato at the San Jose Buddhist Church YBA dance, where they would later marry in 1950. They were very involved in many of the Betsuin’s organizations, such as YBA, ABA, WABL, NBS, Fujinkai & Dharma School. They were also very active with events & fundraisers for the construction of the Morgan Hill Buddhist Church. Carol moved with George and kids from San Martin to Morgan Hill in 1964.
After working for numerous doctors in the south county area, she finally retired from Gilroy’s St. Louise Hospital. Sadly, she lost the love of her life, George Sato in 2001 after celebrating their 50+ anniversary
in Hawaii. Carol & Tosh Nakashima were married 2006 in Oakland, Ca.
Carol is pre-deceased by her mother & father, Namiko & Ichiji Sakata. Her sisters: Pricilla Yoshioka, Lynne Alseth, Betty Kastner & Chizuko Sakata. Her brothers: Robert & Tom Sakata. Her husband George Sato & son Keith Sato.
Carol is survived by her husband Tosh Nakashima, Son Ken (Sherri) Sato, daughter Karen (Jan) Sato, daughter Terri (Chuck) Rennie, grandchildren Jennifer Caravelli, Kendra Sato, Ryan Sato & Alex Rennie.
Sister-in-law Linda Sakata. Cousins Sam (Yae) Sakamoto, Annie Kawaguchi, Shima (Karen) Sakata. Brothers-in-law Mits (Liz) Sato, Dick (Yoko) Sato, sister-in-law Sue Dibble & numerous nieces & nephews.
Due to Covid restrictions, private services were held on February 23, 2021.
