It is with deep sorrow and love that we announce the passing of Charles "Charlie" Howard Cobb, who peacefully left us on August 9, 2025, at the age of 83. Charlie was born on October 18, 1941, in Washington, D.C., and made his way to Santa Clara, California, in the 1960s. He had a way of making those who knew him feel like family. Whether through his love of photography, his fascination with cars, or his deep appreciation for music, he connected with many, near and far.
He was a devoted father to his three children: Jennifer, Christopher, and Natalie. They were the heart of his world, and nothing brought him more joy than being a part of their lives and knowing they were happy and thriving.
He also adored his eight grandchildren, who brought a new light into his life in his later years. His love never wavered and he always showed up: to share a coin, to celebrate an event, or to just say hi. His legacy will live on through them, in the stories they’ll share about their “Grandpa Charlie,” and in the love he so generously gave.
Charlie was predeceased by his parents, Edna and Charles Cobb, his sister Margaret, and his wives, Elizabeth (divorced on September 30, 1969) and Barbara (passed away on August 24, 2015). While his heart carried these losses, his love for them never faded, and he often spoke of them with affection and gratitude. The memories they left behind were a part of him, and his family, always.
In his final years, Charlie faced health struggles with a quiet strength that was typical of him. Through his hospital stays, he was never without his characteristic sense of humor and grace—with a measure of impatience. Jennifer stood strong to support his journey and made sure every step of the way was as he wished. His family took comfort in knowing that he left this world as he lived in it—peacefully and with dignity.
His gems of wisdom, constant questioning of the world, and lighthearted love of life will be remembered by all. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that you consider honoring Charlie’s memory by donating time or money to a charity of your choice. He believed deeply in the power of kindness and giving back, and his family wishes to carry forward that legacy of selflessness and love.
Charles Howard Cobb will be remembered not only for the life he lived, but for the love he gave. He was a man who saw the good in others, who took time to notice the beauty around him, and who left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Charlie’s soul was a rare one, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who were touched by his warmth, his generosity, and his unwavering love.
Rest in peace, Charlie. You are forever in our hearts.
