Clifton Jacobs, Jr., affectionately known as “Big Daddy”, was born on June 8, 1944 in San Francisco, CA, to the union of Zerline and Clifton Jacobs, Sr. Clifton joined his Father in heaven on April 8, 2014. He was preceded in death by both parents. Clifton was the eldest of three, followed by brother, Morris, and his sister, Elaine.
Clifton received his early Christian training at St. John Missionary Baptist Church. Clifton graduated from Galileo High School in 1962. He was very athletic in high school, where he played football and ran track.
On May 6, 1965, Clifton married the love of his life, Shirley Brooks, and they were blessed with two children, Rhonda and Chris. In 1973, the family moved from South San Francisco and settled in San Jose, CA. Clifton worked for the US Postal Service, and for several years, he commuted to work from San Jose to the airmail facility at San Francisco International Airport. Later, he delivered mail at Chateau La Salle and he gained many friends among the residents on his route. He worked for the Postal Service for 36 years, until he retired due to health concerns.
Clifton enjoyed spending time with family and friends, whether at home or in his many travels. Clifton and Shirley hosted many gatherings at their home, and Clifton was able to exercise his love for BBQing. He also loved golf and played at courses around the country.
He was a huge fan of the San Francisco 49ers and the San Francisco Giants, as well as the Golden State Warriors. In his younger days, you could find him tailgating at 49ers games or attending Giants games, and in his later years, he followed each team constantly on TV. His son and daughter both inherited his love of sports, and they are avid supporters of the same teams that their father loved.
Clifton was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. He enjoyed coming to worship service and fellow shipping with other members, and he would often barbecue for events such as Down Home Day. Each year, he would adopt a family at Christmastime and deliver necessities and gifts, including a Christmas tree. He was a member of the golf tournament committee and even when he was no longer able to play, he was a consistent supporter, and he and his wife attended the awards banquet every year.
Clifton’s three grandchildren were the light of his life. They gave him much joy and laughter.
