Daniel grew up in Salinas, California. After graduating from Salinas High School in 2006 he attended U.C. Berkeley, where he studied Psychology and graduated with honors in 2010. He also attended courses at Cambridge University in England and the Mandarin Training Center at the National Taiwan Normal University in Taipei.
Shortly after graduating from Berkeley he began his career as a resident counselor at the Summer Institute for the Gifted in Berkeley. He later worked as a college admissions counselor at HS2 Academy in Silicon Valley and then as Assistant Director of Counseling. Although he loved working with students and their families, he had recently decided to pursue a Master’s Degree in Psychology at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.
He is survived by loving parents David Sonderegger and Pi-Chu Chen, his brother Matthew, and a large extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins in the U.S., Brazil, Taiwan and Japan.
His final resting place will be in a beautiful cemetery in Monterey, California, near a park where he played as a child. It’s a peaceful, quiet place with a view of the ocean and the sound of children’s laughter - - - a perfect place for anyone to visit him any time.
May he rest in peace
