Delinda C. Vargas was a lifelong resident of San José who dedicated her life to her family, her faith, and her community. She cherished the time she spent with family, friends, and the many people whose lives she touched through her volunteer work at St. Patrick's Church, Five Wounds Portuguese National Church, St. John Vianney Church, local community centers, and throughout the San José community.
Delinda was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 71 years, Joseph John Vargas, who passed away in 2018. She is lovingly survived by her children, Robert (Bob) Vargas, Robin Vargas, and Rhonda Vargas; her grandson, James Vargas; and many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
For 37 years, Delinda faithfully volunteered at Abilities United in Palo Alto, where her son Robin attended programs until 2016. In recognition of her extraordinary dedication and service, she was honored with the President's Volunteer Service Award – Lifetime Achievement Award ("Call to Action"), presented during President Barack Obama's administration.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Rose Garden Court for the love, kindness, and exceptional care they provided Delinda over the past nine years. They also wish to express their sincere appreciation to Laurie Tidball for her devoted care during Delinda's final three months, and to Alameda Care Hospice for their compassionate support and comfort during her final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in Delinda's honor to Evergreen Adult Development Center (Robin's Program), 2887 McLaughlin Avenue, San José, CA 95121.
