He is proceeded in death by his wife of 50 years, Beverly and his Son Blake. They were married on October 23rd, 1954 in Carson City, Nevada. Their church wedding ceremony took place on February 19th, 1955. He leaves his sons Wade and Brian Fearnside and his daughter Vana Goecker. Donald had been blessed with 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his wonderful siblings, Sherry Todd, Shirley Walker and Larry Fearnside, as well as many close friends and relatives.
Born in Fresno, California, Don moved to Michigan where he spent his early years. He returned to California in the 8th grade and finished his formative years in Porterville. After high school, Donald joined the US Navy and spent his time on the USS Rochester during the Korean Conflict. After leaving the Navy in 1955, he married Beverly, worked, became a father and completed his AA degree at Sacramento Junior College.
In 1957, Don began his career working with Otis Elevator and retired as a Supervisor after 35 years of employment. In 1962 he transferred to the San Jose office. He truly loved his work and made many good friends during his time with the company.
Donald loved many things. He loved his family and always put them first. Many of his children’s friends were considered extended “family” as well. He took enormous pride in fixing things and would always take satisfaction in being able to solve a problem.
In 1976 Donald moved to his home in Saratoga and enjoyed creating a little oasis where he had beautiful trees, flowers, birds and wild animals to enjoy. In his retirement, he was able to find purpose in managing and maintaining his real estate investments, joy in travel, and spending time with family.
Don was a member of the Los Gatos Presbyterian Church. While he was unable to attend frequently over the past several years, he had a deep faith in the Lord and we know he is in loving hands.
Visitation will be at Oak Hill on Tuesday, February 21st between 10-12. Funeral at 1:30 in the Chapel of the Roses. There will be graveside services at 2:30 for those who wish to attend.
