Beloved husband, father, brother, papa, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend, Douglas Tetsu Nakamura, 66, of San Jose, CA, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2013 as a result of a heart attack.Doug was born to the late Toshio and Sayoko Nakamura in Gilroy, CA, and was the eldest of five children. He spent his childhood on his parents’ strawberry farm in Marina, CA, before moving to San Jose at age 16. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1965, spent four years in the U.S. Navy and then attended San Jose State University.During his time in the Navy, Doug served as a hospital corpsman, and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He was presented with the American Spirit Honor Medal, a tremendous honor for himself and his family. Shortly before finishing college, his father passed away suddenly. Doug and his two brothers came together to operate their father’s fledgling commercial landscaping business, Northwest Landscape & Maintenance Company. Nearly 40 years later, the family business is successful and thriving. Doug loved to golf, and was a longtime member of the golf club “The Hackers”. He valued time spent with his family and close friends above all else. Doug was the patriarch of our family… a genuine, big-hearted man that laughed often and was always there whenever he was needed. He was a loyal friend, and a source of thoughtful advice for many.Doug is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Laurie Nakamura; his three daughters: Andrea (David) Gibson, Pamela and Sandra Nakamura of San Jose; his siblings: Warren Nakamura, Paul (Melissa) Nakamura, Laura (Dan) Irons and Susan (Matt) Carver of San Jose; and his three grandchildren: Drew, Hannah & Chelsea Gibson. He is also survived by a large, loving extended family of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as a cherished group of long time friends. We will all miss him more than we can express.A Memorial Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, November 24, 2013, at the San Jose Buddhist Church Betsuin, 640 N 5th Street. All friends and family are welcome to attend.
