Dear Fonzie,
I thought of you today, not even knowing you had passed away. 
I loved reading the prior notes as I so enjoyed working with you in 1988- 1990; at Kathryn Hughes Elementary school. 
You taught me many invaluable lessons and you had so much patience with the children and with Anne Marie and I. 
We survived Loma Prieta earthquake as we waited all together for every last student to be picked up.
You all threw me the biggest Baby Shower when I was ready to have my firstborn Robert October 1990.
You always loved our presentations to the parents where their little ones performed songs, skits and dances.
Thank you for inviting us to your home to just talk or a great get togethers with friends. 
You always inspired me, little did I know my teaching career still continues.

Happy Heavenly Birthday to you Fonzie. Working with you was the best. You were the best boss! I’m sadden to learn that you passed but I want you to know YOU are NOT forgotten. I’m glad we had a chance to work together and be like family. You will forever be in my heart! 

I would like to express my condolences to all of Fonzie’s family.


A little over 20 years ago, I was part of the extended daycare program as a child at Kathryn Hughes Elementary School in Santa Clara. I will always remember Fonzie for his big heart he had for all of us, and all the fun we used to have. From sock hockey in the cafeteria, to taking our bikes to summer daycare, and even making rockets out of film canisters, and paper. I will always remember his amazing train sets as well. If there was one thing I missed the most about daycare, it was definitely the privilege to play with his train sets.

He was the first person to talk to me about how making fun of a persons skin color is a horrible thing, and that I should never do such a thing. He taught me that everyone is the same, and I never made any other prejudice remarks towards any other person in the manner that I did. 

I hope Fonzie has touched many other peoples hearts and lives as he did mine. Thank you Fonzie for absolutely everything you have taught me. I will always remember you, and some of the lessons you taught me. 

RIP, Mr. Butler.

Best childhood I could have ever asked for. I was taught so much being at his daycare. He was always so nice and caring to everyone. I remember he would get all scared when we would catch him smoking a cig out back lol. And he would always be wearing hats . Well we had so many memories, but he will be truly missed by many. RIP Fonzie

I worked with Fonzie for many years.   Children loved him.  He was energetic and funny.   He had a heart of gold.   He will be missed.  

I will always remember Fonzie as a wonderful man with a sincere care for children. He was fun and vibrant in all aspects of his life. He had fun Kareoki parties and was always playing YMCA. Fonzie was a great director who showed me how to be a successful "Teacher".  I am blessed to have met him and share so many fond memories of him! He will be missed!

I worked with Fonzie the summer of 1990 or 91 . . . not sure which.  Have been thinking about him lately and did a quick  internet search to get in touch.  Saddened to see I'm too late and wanted to share I enjoyed working with him and will always remember how great he was with the kids and the parents.  A truly great person.

Fonzie was the director at the Kathryn Hughes After School Care.  My two boys, Bryan and Kevin both went to his
day care morning and afternoon.  They looked forward to their time there as Fonzie made it fun and taught them 
so much about every day life.  I know he will be missed by many and all the memories he has made for children and
their parents.  The children that were in his care are already sharing their memories with their children now.

Fonzie was my neighbor, across the street, on Leland Ave. He was a fixture in the Burbank neighborhood, and kept an eye out. In the spring, or summer, he'd be sittin' on his front stoop; having a drink. We'd wave, or have short chats. He was THE neighbor to have, esp. with the changing generations, when good people are harder to find.

Since he had moved out of the neighborhood, it was by slim chance, and word of mouth, that I discovered that he had passed. Sending my condolences and sympathy. Will there be a service?
