Frances Cassandra Soroka

April 24, 1923 – July 3, 2014

Frances, 91 passed away peacefully at her home in San Jose on July 3rd with family at her side. Frances is preceded in death by her husband Gerald Soroka, sister Mary Delmonico, and sister in-laws Ruth Carbone and Jeannie Carbone. She is survived by her brothers, Joseph and Frank Carbone, children Bud Nemier (Linda), Pat Cummins (Greg) and Cindy Bower (Tom), grandchildren Michelle, Ginelle, Terri and Sherri, great-grandchildren Jessica, Keenan, Lukas, Emily, Elliana, Samantha and Andrew and many nieces and nephews.

She was the daughter of Vincent and Catherine Carbone who emigrated here from Italy. She was born and raised in Syracuse, New York and attended business college. She later moved with her family, husband and infant son to San Jose, CA in 1947.

Frances worked many years for Butcher Electric doing bookkeeping and secretarial work. She was an excellent typist and an expert at short-hand. She was always a strong independent woman. She loved to cook for her family and prepared many, many delicious Italian meals. She could cook anything.

She was a beautiful, lovely, vivacious and elegant lady with such a wonderful smile and laugh, great singing voice and always had a hug and kiss for everyone. She loved to get dressed up and go out with family and friends, dinners, brunches, trips to Las Vega to enjoy the shows and great dining. She loved and adored being a grandmother to her four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Her face would light up when she saw them. Her children and grandchildren were precious to her and she would do anything for them.

In her retirement she took up oil painting for a while and produced some beautiful paintings. She had not painted before but seemed to have a natural talent for it. Several of her paintings hang in her home and in her children’s homes.

A private memorial service will be held on July 19th at 11:00 at the Willow Glen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in her name to the American Cancer Society or Alzheimer’s Foundation.
