Francisco “Frank” Castaneda was born on August 13, 1944 in San Carlos Pangasinan to Bienvenido Nunit Castaneda and Luisa Torres Castaneda. Frank was welcomed into the loving arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 7, 2024. Frank was a devoted Christian, a thoughtful family man, and a pillar of strength and wisdom for others.
Frank grew up in Manila, and settled with his young family in Meycauayan Bulacan. He eventually moved to San Jose, California in 1988, thereafter bringing the rest of his family to the US.
Frank was married to Bella Cruz Castaneda, with whom he shared a remarkable life and raised three children: Bien (married to Pam), Marie (married to Rick), and Leon (married to Michelle). His love and legacy extended to his cherished grandchildren: Jason, Matthew, Clarisse, and Andrew. As a husband, father, and grandfather, Frank's spiritual anchor in our Lord Jesus Christ became the cornerstone of his values and faith towards the final years of his life in this world.
A devout Christian, Frank’s faith was not only a personal journey but a mission of sharing the Word of God to others. His daily Bible verses touched the hearts of many, offering wisdom and comfort. He was known for his impactful leading of Bible Studies, especially to his neighbors. One neighbor shared, "I didn’t know Jesus, but because of Frank, I now continue reading the Bible." His life was a testament to living out Christ's teachings, and his spiritual influence continues to echo in the lives he touched. Frank has also reached out to family and friends in the Philippines via social media, in his consistent efforts to share the Gospel. Numerous nieces and nephews have shared how much they appreciated the Bible verses shared by Uncle Frank with them. Frank has also cheerfully helped those in need, in times of plenty and scarcity.
Frank was also a proud alumnus of Ateneo de Manila University, where he cultivated values of technical competence, leadership, and a commitment to human development. These principles extended beyond his personal life, laying the foundation for his work in healthcare. Alongside Bella, Frank established a healthcare business in 1991 in San Jose, California, which has grown into a source of quality care for special needs individuals. His dedication to serving others through this venture leaves a legacy of compassion and excellence in caring for the fragile members of our community.
Aside from his faith and business acumen, Frank found joy in simple pleasures. He loved fast driving, and even in his final days, he could be found riding his scooter at full speed. His love of the sea led him to enjoy boating, indulging in his fondness for fishing. His sharp intellect, passion for writing and poetry, and eloquent conversations were traits that those who knew him will always treasure. In the hours-long rides between Sacramento and San Jose, Frank would usually impart generously of his broad knowledge about various topics.
Frank will forever be remembered for his humility, wisdom, and the warmth he brought into every interaction. He leaves a legacy marked by a deep faith, unyielding love for his family, and an enduring spirit of service to others. Rest in peace, Lolo Frank. Say hello to Lola Bell and our loved ones who have gone before us. We love you, and you will be missed. God bless!
