Francisco Medina affectionately known as Pancho, age 91, of Laredo Texas, passed away peacefully on May 25th 2026 surrounded by his family. He lived a profoundly impactful life that embodied the true spirit of the American Dream. A journey defined by relentless hard work, pioneering vision, and a deep love for his family and community.
Humble Beginnings & Service to His Country
Born on March 09, 1935 in Laredo, TX to Bartolo and Isabel Medina, Francisco, learned the value of a hard day's work from a young age. He began his life following the crops as a migrant farm worker, developing a resilient work ethic that would carry him through the rest of his extraordinary life. He loved to tell people he made a life for himself, “picking prunes”.
Driven by a sense of duty, Francisco proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army. The discipline and dedication he honed in the military set the foundation for his future successes.
A Silicon Valley Pioneer & Businessman
After his service, Francisco transitioned into the emerging world of technology, becoming a true pioneer in Silicon Valley. He enjoyed a brilliant career, notably contributing to the early tech boom as a manager at Memorex.
Alongside his technological career, his sharp mind for business led him to invest in his community. He built and managed a successful portfolio of rental properties right in the heart of Silicon Valley, securing a lasting foundation for his family.
A Second Career of Compassion
While his professional achievements were vast, his greatest measure of success was his heart. Never one to sit idle, Francisco treated his retirement not as an end, but as a new beginning. He embarked on a second career working in service at Gateway Center, school for disabled children. There, his warmth, patience, and kindness left an indelible mark on the students and staff alike.
A Lasting Family Legacy
Above all else, Francisco was a devoted family man. His hard work was always for them, and his proudest title was "Dad" and Monkey, Grandpa aka., grumpy. In 1962, he married the love of his life, Delia Medina, and together they built a beautiful life and family. Francisco Medina was an avid handyman who was often found in the garage, spending time with family, playing pool, in the casino, traveling in his motorhome, or helping loved ones with various projects.
He is survived by his beloved children, Elena, Tony, Patricia, and Dan. His legacy will live on through his 4 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild, who will forever cherish their Grumpy.
