I am a cousin of Gerald's from Trinidad and I have been trying unsuccessfully to reach any member of Gerald's family,

Here is a photo from `Christmas 1946? in San Fernando, Trinidad with Gerald's step mother, Christine Mclean Lu and possibly Gerald and his brother and his baby sister.   I would like to make contact with the Lu family if possible.  The couple seated in armchairs are my grandparents Eudora and `Dr Joseph Tsoi a Sue.


We came to know Gerry and Seiko years ago as new homeowners and neighbors.  We have fond memories of Gerry with his warm and welcoming nature.  He always seemed happy to spend time with his friends.  Gerry was a man of faith, and a devoted husband to his Seiko.  Gerry often spoke proudly of David and his accomplishments and was so pleased to become a grandfather.  We are very grateful for the years of friendship and special times shared with these dear friends.  We are thinking of you, Seiko and David as we remember Gerry.

I am the son of Ave Tsoi a `Sue who was a cousin of Gerald McLean Lu.  I have been trying to contact anyone of Gerald's family who can tell me about the family history.  Particularly of his paternal grandparents who lived in Guangzhou.   I am retired from the WHO and living in Port of Spain, Trinidad.

Jerry was the best neighbor! He was a kind, thoughtful, gentle man. He was a great husband, father and a fabulous grandfather.
Jerry was brilliant with a great sense of humor. He loved animals and cared about nature. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.

To recapture the obituary written about Gerald, we would like to add that the most important was that we shared the same Catholic faith with him. Gerald’s individual expression of  his faith was silent but deep with his rituals. We are sure he is in Heaven looking down at his beloved Seiko and family and pray to God to keep them safe always.

Gerald and Seiko came into our lives quite recently in 2014 when my husband Harold and I booked the same trip to Prague, Vienna, & Budapest. We were all from San Jose, CA, and we were instantly impressed with Gerald’s attentiveness to Seiko, and his sunny, pleasant, effervescent personality. 
As we got to know each other better after the trip, we have discovered that we have quite a few attributes in common. We shared our Chinese culture where Seiko is very much involved. The husbands were both enlisted men, enjoyed culinary skills, appreciated music, and liked to just chat about anything. We have the same interest in broadening our world knowledge that we went on a second trip together namely the Baltic Sea Cruise in 2016. We were on the same wave length, and even discovered that we bought the plots at the same cemetery long ago.
We went on separate family trips later, and kept in touch until Gerald was sick so abruptly, but he  fought hard. We were lucky to have seen him one last time still with a smile on his face. Gerald truly cared about others, and possessed great listening skills. Seiko has been so brave to soldier on one day at a time. We miss Gerald and will not forget him as a person and all his lifelong achievements.

Dear Seiko and David,

Russ and I are so sorry for your loss.  Gerry was a wonderful neighbor for over 45 years.  We will miss seeing him drive by and wave as we work in our front yard.  He was such a nice man.

We hope that all the loving memories you have help to carry you through this difficult time.

Dear Seiko,

Dora and I are both sorry for you loss.  I have  memories of me pulling into my driveway and seeing him in my rear view mirror crossing the street quickly towards me.   He usually had a question about his internet connection or something else around the house that he was trying to fix.  I also remember he loved spending time in his garage.  I would walk over once in a while and have a discussion about some current event or what was going on the neighborhood.  I will miss that.

Dear Seiko, 

I was both shocked and sad to hear that Gerald passed away last year. I remember we were still having a wonderful get together in your dining room in early 2019 chatting about politics and Gerald's family in the old China. I don't know what to say other than feeling so sorry that we lost such a dear friend. 

I cherish and will forever remember every talk I had with Gerald. He was the most intellectual person I know with sharp insights in almost everything. Even though he did not know much of Chinese language, his profound knowledge of Chinese culture and its comparative to the western one made me appreciate so much in every talk I had with him over the last few years. He represented, in my view, the top notch American who makes this country great, and it moves me deeply that so much of his quality came from his Chinese lineage. He was truly a great man who integrated the best parts of the two completely different cultures. I learned so much from Gerald and I believe all his friends feel the same way. I am proud of being a friend of his and I will forever miss him. 

I cannot imagine your sorrow, Seiko. Please take good care of yourself and know that our hearts are always with you.

My apologies for the belated post. I only found out today from coach Niall Angus. Covid, had that way of isolating us from those we care about.

I met Jerry in the winter of January 2000. He was the ultimate Santa Clara tennis fan. He would cheer them on and support them. 

 We lost touch for a few years when I went overseas. When I returned in 2017, there was Jerry, on the sidelines of the courts. And we struck up a friendship again.

He was an absolute delight to be around. Always positive, always smiling. Always supportive of the players and everyone around.

I was so looking forward to seeing him again around the courts, (once covid had subsided).

I will miss him.

A visit from Uncle Gerald and Auntie Seiko

We're so happy that Uncle Gerald has been an important part of our lives. Your laugh and welcoming presence will be sorely missed at our holiday dinners <3 thank you for all the delicious food and wonderful times. 

I met Seiko in 2016 when I audited a piano class at the Community Center.  We soon became friends when we took language classes together.  Seiko introduced my husband and I to Gerald soon after.  I found him to be a very kind gentleman.  One could see that he loved his wife very much when he told the story of how they met.  Besides supporting each other during their lifetime,  they were very excited about  remodeling  their home and had more plans to expand their garden.  Gerald met an elderly man at the gym who is over 90 years old and he drove the man to gym every time he needed to go.  

I had looked forward to getting to know Gerald better.  I am so sorry to hear of his passing.  We should all find comfort that he is no longer suffering from his illness.  

To Seiko, David, and family;  I am sure Gerald will always be looking down from Heaven and smile at you with all his love.
