We are sad to announce the passing of Gil Medrano at O’Connor Hospital. He was surrounded by his loving family. His wife of 57 years. Pat (Giafaglione) Medrano, his sons Dominic, Paul, (Toni). Sadly his son Greg preceded him in 2011. He was the youngest of 12 children born to Jesus and Rafaela Gaitan Medrano in Hanford, Ca. He attended St. Patrick’s elementary school, Peter Burnett Jr. High and was graduated from San Jose High class of 1955. He and Pat started dating during that summer. He went to S.J. City College (2 Years). He joined the U.S. Army, Served from 1957 – 1959. He was stationed in Germany. While there he was able to tour Europe and visited London, Paris, Rome, Florence, Venice, Switzerland, Holland and Belgium. Enjoyed Every minute, took tons of photos and movies. He was determined to learn German and became quite good at it. Which he arrived back home he secured a job with standard oil, started as a station attendant and was later promoted to credit Mgr at the headquarters in San Jose. He then decided he wanted to own his own business. He bought a Chevron Dealership (Meridian Chevron) and with the help of his sons ran the business for 40 yrs. He studied Korean Karate for 30 Yrs. Earning the rank of 3rd degree Black Belt and became an instructor. Gil enjoyed summer vacations house boating and water skiing at Lake Shasta. Winter vacations, snow skiing at Lake Tahoe. He knew he had better see to it that Pat got to go to the casinos while there. Pats younger sister Karen (Whom he loved very much) encouraged him to learn to ski. His brother in-law Tom (Karen’s Husband) and Gil had some great adventures… deep sea fishing out of Monterey Bay and golfing at Clear Lake Golf Course are only two of many and was an avid sports fan of the 49’ers, Warriors, Sharks and Boxing. He Loved his in-laws Naish and Bernice (Deceased). They considered him the “Son” they never had. He enjoyed all of the Medrano family reunions, weddings and birthday parties. He had many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and god sons. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Dominic, Leo, Richard and sisters Beatrice, Amelia, Angelina and Esther. He was two surviving sisters, Erlinda and Eva.
Honey, “You will always be loved and missed” Visitation Monday, June 4, 2018 from 12 - 4 pm. Room E. With Rosary at 7pm. Oak Room. Funeral services Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at 10am. Oak Room. All Services will be held at Oak Hill Memorial Park 300 Curtner Ave. San Jose CA.
