

Harold Kiyoto Kubo, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loving family, on the 12th of December, 2023. He was 96 years old. Harold lived a full life filled with love and dedication to his family.
Born on February 24th, 1927 in Lahaina, Maui, Harold enjoyed a happy childhood growing up on a sugarcane plantation in Puukolii, Maui. His parents valued hard work and helping those less fortunate than themselves. Harold carried those values throughout his life and passed them down to his children.
Harold was a proud graduate of Lahainaluna High School in Maui, class of 1945 and enlisted in the US Army soon after. He used the GI Bill to learn a trade and graduated from the National School of Meat Cutting in 1948. Harold started his career as a butcher with his brothers, Bob and Wally, at Aloha Supermarket in a family business in San Jose, then opened his own meat shop in Gardena, CA, and eventually moved back to San Jose to work at various grocery stores in the San Jose area.
Harold is survived by his devoted wife, Betsy; they recently celebrated 72 years of marriage on the 8th of December. They first met in Oahu and together, created a beautiful legacy of hard work, selfless love and commitment to family. Their warm-hearted hospitality to others was an example for their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Harold was an anchor of strength for his children: Colleen, Marsha, Milt (Kelly), Jody (Lois) and their families. His example of hospitality to others was instrumental in shaping their lives and instilling in them the values of family, hard work, and helping others. His highest priority was his family and he loved hosting family gatherings. He valued keeping the family together in harmony, and was famous for his “talk story” stories.
In addition to his children, Harold is survived by his beloved grandchildren: Mark, Lauren, Alyssa, Aaron, Kyle, Aimee, Scott, Joel, Nick, and Nathan. He proudly talked about the goings on of his grandchildren who held a special place in his heart, and they will forever cherish their memories of Grandpa. Furthermore, Harold's legacy has extended to his great-grandchildren: Hudson, Braxton, and baby Lua.
Harold Kiyoto Kubo will always be remembered for his warm smile, entertaining stories, and giving heart. His life and legacy will not be forgotten.
