Hilario (Larry) Domrigue Saclayan, 95, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2025, in San Jose, California.
Larry was born on May 13, 1930, and raised in Bintawan, Solano, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines. He was the son of Roman Saclayan and Remigia Saclayan.
Larry is survived by his wife, Eugenia, and his children: Larry Jr, Roland, and Richard; daughter-in-law Portia; grandchildren, April, Mega, and Darren; and family dogs: Peaches and George.
In 1953, Larry graduated from National University in Manila, Philippines, with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce. In 1955, he began his service with the United States Coast Guard aboard the USCG Cutter Gresham, which was stationed out of Alameda, California.
In 1959, he married Eugenia Valdez, and a couple years later they welcomed their first child, Larry Jr. The family bought their first home in New London, Connecticut, in 1962. Soon afterwards they moved to Staten Island, New York. After several years on the East Coast, and now with four children, they returned to California in 1971. Later they settled in their new home in San Jose—what would soon become Silicon Valley—in 1973. He retired from the U.S. Coast Guard in 1976 and later joined the US Postal Service in 1977 and retired 19 years later in 1996.
He is reunited with his beautiful daughter, Shirley May, whom he missed dearly. We take comfort in knowing they are together again.
Larry lived a wonderful and meaningful life—one filled with adventures, opportunities, and love. He embraced life with curiosity and joy, always finding something new to appreciate.
