Howard Hom, also known as Chuck Lun, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2025 at home after a long struggle with dementia. Howard was born on October 12, 1934, in Taishan, Canton, China. He was 93 years old. Born to loving parents, Ben Lin Hom and May Yung Lee, Howard immigrated to the United States with his mother and was reunited with his father at the age of 15. He attended and graduated from St. Mary School and began his lifelong career in supermarkets, where he worked until his retirement.
Howard was a loving brother to Susy, Edward, and Betty. He was a devoted husband to Connie, a cherished father to Lisa and Julie, and a proud father-in-law to Greg. He was also a proud grandfather to Christopher and Jennifer.
Dad was a hard-working and generous man, deeply dedicated to his family. Everything he did was for them. He was quiet yet determined, always orderly and meticulous. His legacy lives on in his children: “Dad, we will miss you immensely. You always gave 110% and never stopped fighting for what’s right. Because of you, we carry the hearts of lions, the love of family, and an incredible work ethic.” Despite his many responsibilities, Howard always made time for his family and his passions. He enjoyed watching Bruce Lee movies in Chinatown and spending weekends at Niner games at Candlestick Park—or watching them on TV with the kids. He was also uniquely talented with mirror writing, signing his name upside down and reversed, and displayed a youthful side through his skill at the arcade claw machine. So adept was he at winning, the family was often overrun with stuffed animals, many of which he generously donated to children in need.
A funeral Service will be held at Oak Hill Memorial Park, 300 Curtner Ave., San Jose, CA 95125, on Friday, October 3, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow.
We take comfort in knowing that Howard’s legacy lives on through the lessons he taught, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever.
