

Jack was born and raised in Watsonville, California. Interned in Poston, Arizona during WWII 1943- 1946 and served in Military Intelligence after WWII in Japan and during the Korean War for which he received the Congressional Gold Medal in 2011. Jack enjoyed sports, trout fishing, and trips to Reno. He was a member of the National Cartoonist Association, Northern California Cartoonist Association and the Japanese American Museum of San Jose, California. In the 70’s he was the Editorial Cartoonist for the Pacifica Tribune and Author/ Illustrator of Camp II Block 211. He was a freelance cartoonist with a passion for caricatures of athletes and politicians and he is best known for his cartoons depicting life in a WWII internment camp.He is survived by his two daughters, Yoko Matsuoka (Mike Butler) and Emi (Russell) Young, his grandchildren; Peter, Matthew and Jennifer Young, and Jessica Lamore, his great-grandson, Wesley Richards, his sister Ruth (George) Inouye, his nephews; Ron, Steve, and Richard Inouye of San Francisco. We will miss his kindness, patience and sense of humor.A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2013 at 3pm at Willow Glen Funeral Home in San Jose, Ca. Reception to follow at Fourth Street Bowl. As per family in lieu of flowers, please make donations to Japanese American Museum of San Jose or Yu Ai Kai.
