On Wednesday September 4th, 2019 at 15:25 hours, James Everett Eckhardt departed from his earthly vessel and answered his call to go home to be with his Heavenly Father. He was born on July 9th, 1941 in San Francisco, California to Laverne Earle Eckhardt Sr. and Louise Margaret Eckhardt. In November of 1958 he entered into service for his country with the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1962. Upon his return to civilian life he got a job at Wells Fargo Bank in San Francisco where he met the love of his life, Lidis Antonia Simonds and they subsequently married in May of 1964. He became a newspaper truck driver for the Chronicle/Examiner shortly thereafter where he retired almost 4 decades later. In 1974 he relocated to San Jose, California where he raised his family and lived with his wife until his passing. He was a humble, kind, and generous man that would give you the shirt off of his back if you needed it. He was a welcoming man who opened his doors to anyone that needed a place to stay or just to rest; a rare breed of person with a gentle soul. He loved his family, his SF 49ers and SF Giants, and loved playing cards. Jim is preceded in death by his father Laverne Eckhardt Sr., his mother Louise Eckhardt, his sister Linda Loveridge, and his nephew Robert Eckhardt. He leaves to cherish his life, his wife Lidis Eckhardt, daughters Monica Jacoby (Derek) and Denise Fernandez (Alex) of San Jose, California and his son Dan Eckhardt (Yuri) of San Francisco, California. Grandchildren: Amanda Jacoby, Alessandra Eckhardt-Fernandez, Joshua Jacoby, and Mia Coker. Great grandchildren: Jonah, Aaliyah, Gabriel, Jeremiah, and Josiah. Son (born in Jim’s heart): Ivan Juliao, Ivan’s children: Jasmine, Tony, Jocelyn, Jessica, and Janet, and their mother: Maria Peralta (Roger). Sister: Elna Bateman. Brother: Laverne Eckhardt Jr. Nieces: Sherry Domingo, Karen Bateman, and Barbara Hill. Nephews: Michael Eckhardt, Joseph Bateman, and Jeff Loveridge. He will also be remembered by many other family and friends. A graveside funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 14th at Oak Hill Cemetery, 300 Curtner Ave., San Jose, CA 95125
