Our beloved Jan was unexpectedly called by our Lord to Heaven on September 13, 2019. Her kindness, selflessness, and loyalty left an immeasurable impact on the lives of everyone she came in contact with. Her life and legacy are defined by her unselfish desire to serve others before herself.
A lifelong resident of San Jose, CA, Jan was born to Calvin and Hazel Jones on May 21, 1949. She attended Trace Elementary, Hoover Junior High, and Abraham Lincoln High School near the Rose Garden, graduating from Lincoln in 1967. She then went on to work for the County of Santa Clara in the District Attorney’s office where she met her husband Alvin, and they married in 1973. In September 1978, she gave birth to her only son, Tony. After spending a couple additional years working for the county in the Health Department, she took a job at Hewlett-Packard as a secretary in 1981. Nearly 34 years later, she retired from HP after a remarkable career, culminating in her role as Executive Assistant to the Chief Financial Officer. She was (rightfully) very proud of her career and held the relationships she created at HP in very high regard.
Jan loved to travel, especially with Al, as well as watch the Oakland A’s and San Jose Sharks. She went on trips to Hawaii, the Mexican Riviera, Italy, and various cities in the Mediterranean. More important to her, however, was the time she spent with family and friends. She was happiest when she could attend a Jones family reunion, go out to birthday dinner with her best friends, or spend Christmas (her favorite holiday) with her beloved grandchildren. Following Al’s death in 2014, she was able to re-connect with her faith in God through Campbell United Methodist Church. She heavily relied on family, friends, and faith to get her through the loneliness of being a widow and they never failed her.
Jan is preceded in death by Alvin, her husband of more than 40 years. She is survived by her sister Judy Jones, son Tony Medaglia (Andrea), step-sons Pat Medaglia (Patty), Dan Medaglia (Patty), and step-daughter Jan Giovanetti (Dave), along with seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and numerous other friends and family members who love her dearly.
