

John was born on December 5, 1934 in Scranton, PA. He grew up in Newark, New Jersey where he graduated high school at Seton Hall Preparatory. He earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Newark College of Engineering and his MS in Mechanical Engineering from Villanova University.
John worked for The Martin Company, RCA, and General Electric (GE) on the east coast. In 1977, he moved to California where he worked for GE Nuclear Energy. John was a gifted engineer whose designs went to the moon on the original Lunar Module. He was a designer for the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program and commercial nuclear reactors. He was also the founder and CEO of a consulting company and an author of business books.
John loved music and was the choir director at St. Anthony's Church in New Almaden, CA. Before that he was the choir and music director at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Round Lake, NY, and Corpus Christi Church in Willingboro, NJ.
He is preceded in death by his son, Brian, his parents Alexander and Mary Alai, his sisters: Betty Giardino, and Rosemarie Stelzle, and his nephew, Jeffrey Alai.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Bridie, their four loving children and their spouses: Lorraine and Ed Kurata, Kevin Alai, Maureen Alai, Terese and Erik Swenson. His loving grandchildren are: Griffin Shaw, Liam Kurata, Connor Kurata, and Veronica Swenson. He is also survived by his brother Ed Alai and his wife Holly; his sister Susan Alai and her husband Jerry; and his many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He is greatly loved and will be dearly missed.
