John Bernard Ozan was born on May 27th, 1927, in Houston Texas. He was the third of four boys born to his parents, Joseph C Ozan and Esther M Ozan, who were originally from Louisiana. John’s older brothers Wilson Ozan and Joseph Ozan are now deceased. His younger brother Robert Ozan is still living in Texas.
Growing up in Houston, John worked as a stock clerk at Sears & Roebuck until he enlisted in the Army at the age of 18. He served as a private at the end of WW II, and as a member of the post-war occupation forces. He then re-enlisted and served as a Corporal in the Korean War until June, 1952.
After his military service, John moved to San Francisco and continued his education, completing high school, and two years at the Heald's College of Engineering. John then went to work for the US Post Office in 1956 as a Distribution Clerk, a position he held until his retirement in January 1988.
On 1966, John married Uraline Willis in a Christmas Eve ceremony. He became step-father to Uraline’s four children, Lawrence (Larry) Boldon, Valetta Morrison (now deceased), Sandra Wise, and Dale Ozan. John and Uraline lived in San Jose, and together served faithfully in the local churches to which they belonged. John was a diligent and faithful usher, and later served in a Senior's group. John and Uraline were married for nearly 38 years until Uraline passed away in 2004.
John will long be remembered for his inquisitive mind, his handyman skills, and his willingness to help those in need. He was a creative cook in the kitchen. His lifelong desire was to learn Spanish.
