John Ponsiano

February 15, 1927 – July 16, 2021

John passed away peacefully in Livermore, CA on July 16, 2021 at the age of 94.

John will be fondly remembered by his children, Sharon Spehar, Daniel, David (Gail), his brother, Joe (Jacquie), and his sister, Mary Figueira. He was brother-in-law to Larry Homen (Jerrie Lea), Gerry Perry and Delores Homen. He will be missed by his 5 grandchildren, 9 great and 6 great-great grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Marie, his son, Dean, and his grandson, Darren.

John was born in Hanford, CA on February 15, 1927 to Jose and Mary Ponsiano. His family later moved to Los Gatos, where he attended Los Gatos High School. After high school, the family moved to Centerville, CA, where he purchased a truck and started his own hay hauling business. He met his future wife, Marie, while delivering hay to her family dairy. He had various career endeavors over the years including owning a dairy, another trucking business, and a water truck rental business before retiring from the San Jose Flea Market in 2001 after 40 years, where he worked as a heavy equipment mechanic.

John loved hunting, fishing and most anything that took him outdoors, such as traveling in his motorhome. He was also a problem-solver who often took on difficult and unwanted projects at work and around the house. There was never a stranger as long as John was around. He would talk to all that came into his path and had so many stories to share. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.

You are invited to celebrate John’s life on August 4, 2021, viewing starting at 1:00 pm at the Chapel of the Roses at Oak Hill Memorial Park, 300 Curtner Avenue, San Jose, CA, with service following at 2:00 pm. If you cannot make it, please honor John with a toast of your favorite beverage or share a story about him that makes you smile.
