John Philip Reed

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John Philip Reed on 8/22/2024 in San Jose California. John began his life on 9/28/1942 in his beloved hometown of San Jose where he lived his entire life.

John raised his children in the Cambrian Park area of San Jose in a modest home always filled with laughter, fun and love. In John’s youth he was very active in school sports and the music program and talked about those years often and fondly.

John had a rewarding career as Senior Photo Engraver at the San Jose Mercury News and enjoyed his more than 50 years as a founding member with the Loma Prieta Region of the Porsche Club of America. During his tenure with the LPR, John held numerous board positions and even became the LPR photographer for several decades.

John was preceded in death by his loving wife Kathleen Reed (Harbottle), parents Harry and Helen Reed, Sister Patricia Shelvock (Ned Shelvock) and in-laws Jack, Peggy and Jim Harbottle.

John is survived by his loving wife Angie Reed, children Sean Reed (Susan Victor Reed) and Cindi Mason (Frank Mason), Laura Sharp, Jim Sharp (Veronica Sharp), grandchildren Trevor Mason (Jonathan Richards), Tia Mason, Deja Mason and Jimmy Sharp.

John was so very loved and will be deeply missed by all those he ever met. A private service will be held at The Gardens at Oak Hill Cemetery.
