

Born in Guangdong, China, he moved to Taipei, Taiwan at the age of 15. He graduated from National Cheng Kung University in Tainan, Taiwan in 1958 and later earned his Master of Science from Kansas State University in 1964. Joseph enjoyed a distinguished 36-year career in civil and structural engineering. In retirement, he embraced his love of travel, exploring destinations around the world.
He was a passionate car enthusiast, alongside his many other interests, which included hiking in the Bay Area and national parks, beekeeping, tai chi, Chinese calligraphy and publishing two books. He was also passionate in supporting and volunteering with the SOAR Foundation. This organization was dedicated to providing scholarships to needy students in rural China so they can continue their education.
Joseph is survived by his beloved wife, Josephine, of 62 years; his children, Betty (Gary Ching), Frances (Steve Takaki), and Wayne (Eva Rong); and his grandchildren, Eric, Wendy, Brandon, Tyler, Ethan, Lauren, and Timothy.
There will be a private service on Sunday April 5, 2026.
