June Potter

June Potter passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026, at the age of 97. June was the daughter of William Brown and Violet Perry Brown. She grew up in Oklahoma, and her early childhood was marked by the challenges of the Great Depression. Her father passed away when she was a teenager and she, her mother, and half-sister, Billie, moved to San Jose, California where she lived most of her life.

June graduated from San Jose High School. It was in San Jose that she met her husband, Darrel (“Jim”) Potter. They married in 1948 and had 3 daughters, Diana, Sherrie and Tina. Jim served in the navy and during the early years of their relationship he was deployed at times. Living through the hard times of the Great Depression and World War II, June was a tough and resilient young woman.

June was a devoted mother. She worked part-time as a bookkeeper and tax preparer when her daughters were young. She was involved in the PTAs of her daughters’ schools; she was a Camp Fire Girls leader and a leader of 4-H groups. June loved to do crafts and was a talented seamstress. She often made clothes for herself and her girls. June also loved to play games. She was always organizing games at family gatherings. Some of the best memories spent with family and friends were centered around hours and hours of playing games.

As her girls grew up, June began her career as an Office Manager and Controller for a partnership which owned and operated Round Table Pizza franchises. She was a valued and respected employee and mentor.

After the passing of her husband in 1994, she continued in her career. She became increasingly involved in her church, Evergreen Valley United Methodist Church, serving on committees and boards, and volunteering for ministry events. She enjoyed traveling and took many trips with family and friends. She was always very busy. Even after she retired from her role as Office Manager, it was only a couple of years before she decided to go back to work as a part-time receptionist in her local mobile home community.

June moved to Sparks, Nevada to live in a retirement community in 2016. It was there that she spent the final years of her life.

June is survived by her daughters, Diana Halvorson, Sherrie Amader, and Christine (“Tina”) Potter, her grand-daughters, Ashley DesRoches and Allison Scadden, her grandsons, Kevin Wheeler and Shawn Wheeler, her great-granddaughter Laurel Slothower and her great-grandson Jameson Wheeler.

June’s family would like to thank the many medical professionals and caregivers who provided such thoughtful care to her in the last years of her life.

A funeral service and celebration of June’s life will be held at Oak Hill Funeral Home in San Jose, California on Saturday, August 31st at 11:00 AM.
