Lawrence Patrick Guida, a loving husband and devoted father of two daughters, passed away on February 9th, 2023. After fighting a long battle with cancer he took his last breath surrounded by his wife, daughters and sister.
Larry was born in Rochester, New York. As a child Larry and his older sister who he was extremely close to, Carole St. Germain, moved from New York to California with their loving mom, Alice. When he was young, his Aunt Doris and Uncle Jim were like second parents to him, and he loved them dearly. Larry ended up settling in San Jose with his wife of 36 years, Richele and his two daughters; Allyson, 35 and Lyndsey, 29.
Larry worked in the construction industry as an IBEW local 332 Electrician, for more than 35 years before deciding to retire. Larry and his best friend of more than 45 years, Tom Sandkuhle, loved going for cruises and hikes in the Redwoods. Larry always loved music, especially classic rock and roll. His favorite musicians of all time were Pink Floyd and Jimmy Hendrix. Larry was an avid San Francisco sports fan! He loved the 49ers, Giants, and Warriors. Larry was fiercely loyal to his family. The gang of 5 cousins remained closely connected throughout his life. He and Richele loved to go to concerts and watch sports together, even though their sports teams rivaled. Larry was devoted to both of his daughters, always cheering them on during soccer games, school events, and all of the milestones they experienced throughout their lives. He was simply the best dad! Larry was a family man and his favorite way to entertain was to have friends and family over for a BBQ. Larry loved unconditionally and when he cared about you, you knew it.
Larry's parents, grandparents, uncle, and a few close friends and Westies are waiting for him on the other side. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends who loved him dearly!
We will be having a celebration of life in the coming months and will post details regarding the event as it gets closer. If you would like to honor Larry, there were many causes that were dear to his heart. He was always helping people in need and you can give a donation to the following organization in his name:
Hero Tent-Here for the Heros.
This organization is a young group of black activists in San Jose. Using "radical optimism" and "human empowerment" they are picking up where systems have failed using the power of community to make change. They are always providing relief and resources to the San Jose's homeless population. Helping people in need, specifically the homeless, was a community problem that was close to Larry's heart.
