Lillian was born to the late Romeo and Gloria Salgado in Cavite City, Philippines, on the 22nd of February 1944. The eldest of four, she is survived by her sisters, Pearly and Evelyn, and brother Romy.
She graduated from Cavite High School and received her BS in mathematics and MS in Education from the University of the Philippines.
Lillian was married to the late Reynaldo Francisco and is survived by her six (6) children: Rosemarie, Jojo, Floriza, Zaldy, Dhro, and Franz; nine (9) grandchildren: Roanne, Suzette, Myco, Carlitos, Christian, Christine, Isabel, Niko, and Alexia; and six (6) great-grandchildren: Denice, Aaliyah, Cleo, Zachary, Xyrene, and Vhynz; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Lillian was a serial-Entrepreneur and owned several business endeavors ranging from Real Estate Brokerage to Tax and Bookkeeping Services to Manufacturing and Distribution of a line of chubby dolls manufactured in the Philippines called “Chunka Cheeks”. Lillian enjoyed traveling, entertaining, and just simply being the life of the party.
She embraced life to the fullest. She enjoyed hanging out with friends and certainly was not afraid to try new things. In 1992, Lillian met Ken, and the life with him was filled with an active lifestyle, skiing at Tahoe with friends, camping at Tehachapi, CA, and most weekends were spent at the Delta boating and fishing. In 2004, they traded the 28’ Bayliner from the Delta to the 28’ Komfort fifth wheel, moving their recreation plans from sea to land. They had fun going to Las Vegas, Reno, and San Jose, visiting family, and combining trips with Lillian’s many conferences and seminars to attend for her continuing education credit requirements.
Lillian tried semi-retirement; work is just something she could not give up. She kept select bookkeeping clients and continued her tax practice to stay busy. She also traveled extensively, doing extended visits to family and friends. Summers in Michigan and San Jose were annual events, spending the bulk of her summer with her grandkids Niko, Isabel, and Alexia. Christmas was also a month-long visit with family, rotating family gatherings from San Jose, Georgia, Michigan, and Texas.
So, what had been the fondest memories family and friends say about Lillian?
• Her friends would say that her life was anything but boring. She was always on the go.
• With her torrid one-sided love affair with the camera, she was always ready to vogue. STRIKE A POSE! We certainly did not lack any pictures to choose from; every picture she posted was filled with fun, laughter, and life!
• Remembering when she thought she won the lottery because she was reading the winning number and not the ticket she bought. She had a way of making you feel so excited but making it so funny when she realized it was not at all the case.
• She loved her phone and technology; she regularly used it, emailing, texting, posting, and taking pictures. We could always track where she was and what she was doing based on her FB posts. LOVE IT!
• She chatted with every Filipino she met and exchanged info on the first meeting; you would think it was just networking, but not so much the case… Of course, there had been citings and proof on FB about how friendly she was, and you could not help but befriend her.
• For a long time, her second job was at the casino, playing the slot machines. Listening to her account of it, she won every time she played.
• She is a creature of habit: family, friends, food, travel, work, REPEAT!
• Her love for food and culture instilled in us traditional family values like preparing Filipino food for every gathering. Of course, don’t forget the Patis (fish sauce)!
• For us, she was simply MOM: caring, loving, always there to listen, supportive, proud of us, teacher, mentor, would only give you advice if you ask for it, intelligent, role model, fun-loving, and the list goes on and on…
