He volunteered for the Army at the age of 17 and served his tour of duty in Japan as World War II came to a close.
Manuel was known for his sense of humor and was always ready with a quick joke. He enjoyed music and playing the guitar with his brothers and other family members. He even recorded a record that was played on the local radio station in Visalia!
Family was always important to Manuel, especially since he grew up with 16 brothers and sisters. He raised five children with his wife Alice Delgado. They lived in various cities across California but finally settled in San Jose.
After Manuel retired from the City of Milpitas, where he was a Supervisor in the Streets and Maintenance Department, he and Alice took vacations in all parts of the world. A favorite family vacation was camping in Yosemite.
In his later years he enjoyed watching movies, learning and using the newest technology, watching Bay Area sports, spending time in his garden and maintaining his orange tree.
Many have said Manuel “Our Papa” was an exceptional man. He was hardworking, loved his children, grandchildren, and
great-grandchildren deeply. He did everything with the purpose of making a better life for his family. (And he could fix or build anything!!!)
Manuel passed away peacefully on December 30, 2025, surrounded by family.
